1 The project quality will be the same as a standard DVD and will be transferred to a USB drive via smart Package so does that follow that I still render to mpg 2
2 If I pack to a folder, in the smart package dialogue box there is an option to “Include all unused trackers in the project” what does this refer to
Saving a project to a usb drive

Re: Saving a project to a usb drive
I feel a little confusion here Ken - not sure you understand what a packed project is
The project quality will be the same because it IS the project - nothing has happened to it
There is no rendering involved in packing a project - when you pack a project VS simply makes a copy of every thing in the project - including the actual .vsp project file and puts it in a folder which you can then copy to a USB stick and move to a new computer - the packed project will only play - and allow you to edit it - on another computer which has Videostudio on it .
it is just a way of transferring your work to another computer - it will NOT play on a TV or DVD player - you do not pack a project to do that
If you have used 'track motion' at all in your project then Videostudio is asking if you want to move any unused trackers to the USB stick - if you have used 'track motion' and intend to do any more editing then say yes - if you have not used track motion and have no intention of doing so then say no

Re: Saving a project to a usb drive
Do I not understand correctly that if I want to play a rendered project transferred to a USB stick onto a TV, then that rendered project will need first to be packed to a folder or a zip file?
Or will a flash drive only save a vsp file and only be used by VS?
If I am way off track here, is there any way that a completed (rendered) project can be played on a TV (or DVD with a USB socket) via a usb stick- if so how, what would be the workflow ?

Re: Saving a project to a usb drive
Simply render your project to a video file (in a format that your TV recognizes) and copy that file to a USB stick. Insert in your TV's USB slot and play.
A packed project or zip file cannot be played by a TV. Please read Brians post carefully - he explained it well.

Yes Ken it is perfectly possible to put a video on a USB stick (or portable hard drive) and play it on a TV - I do it often - but you do not put a project on the stick - only a video
first determine what formats your TV can play - older ones only play mpeg-2 - newer ones have many more options
do all your editing as normal and when finished create your mpeg-2 file - but now instead of opening the DVD burn module simply go to Windows File Explorer and copy the new mpg-2 file to the USB stick
plug into your TV and select the USB input - you may then have to select the video to play - depends on your TV
with multiple videos on a portable hard drive I see this on my TV screen - then I select and press play on my remote - yours may be slightly different depending on make and model

Re: Saving a project to a usb drive
1 Thanks for all the info. Think my confusion arose from initially reading on this forum that members were saving to Smart Package as they were editing and before transferring files to usb. I did not realise at the time that they were possibly doing this (to save hard drive space) and also to edit their work on another pc via VS on that pc. Hope this is correct.
2 So, in my case, I render to Mpeg 2 and do not open the burn module.
3 Then, via Windows, copy and paste the video on to the usb drive (does it have to be in a named folder
4 Plug the usb stick into my Blue Ray DVD player .
5 Select the appropriate input on the TV to show the files on the usb stick

Re: Saving a project to a usb drive
No they do not have to be in a specific folder - as you can see from my photo of my TV screen they just appear onscren with the title of the video file - on my system the video selected shows bigger than the rest - so if none were selected they would all be the same size.
