Need to format a SDHC camcorder card
I put a new Kingston 32 GB SDHC class 10 card in a Panasonic HC V 520 camcorder and forgot to format it.However, it is recording ok and the 2 files I recorded play back ok.So do I really need to format this card or not, what are the consequences of not formatting it to start with.

Re: Need to format a SDHC camcorder card
Hi Kenneth
Clearly the card was ok when first used, if there were a problem I think the camera would have flagged that up and prompt you to format.
If needed to clear the old recordings use the cameras menu to format the card rather than the PC.
My Pana 900 gives the option to Format card.
I only use 8 Gb cards as that allows for 60 minutes of recordings, I find that easier to manage.

Re: Need to format a SDHC camcorder card
Yep,
I always thought that a card had to be initially formatted on the camera it was to be used with and that different makes had a different way of formatting.Perhaps this has changed with the newer cards.Looked on the Pana website but could not find any info. Also understand that it is best to format rather than delete if you want to use the same card again
