Default toolbar icons in X8 changed and wrong

Post by Zantara »

I have both X7 and X8 (+ Servicepack 1) installed, but prefer to work with X7.
I opened X8 yesterday and all the default icons of both the toolbar and my personal toolbar were changed and in the wrong order.

This is what the toolbar looks like now:

The functions are still in the right place, but all icons are mixed up.

What I have done so far:
* Imported the workspace file I saved when setting up X8
* Emptied the PSP chache
* Disabled and enabled the toolbar
* Reset to default settings

Also the default menubar has different and wrong icons.

I do not have this problem with X7.

Does anyone has the same problem and is there an option I've overlooked to reset it?

Launch X8.1 with Shift key down until it asks you if you want reset to default.
Say Yes.
Et voilaaa !

I've had this problem many times, in a number of versions. It seems to come and go at random.

If you use Jean-Luc's solution, save your workspace first so that you can retrieve the way you have it organized.

A second method that may correct the problem: right-click on a toolbar and in the menu that pops up select customize, then select Toolbars, click on tools and when that is select click on reset.

@Jean-Luc
Thank you for the tip. It does sort the icons out. All back to the default ones.
However, the workspace file has been overwritten, just like when you install Servicepack 1.
When that happened I saved an extra copy at a different location.
So when following your advise and discovering the workspace file was, again, overwritten with a file with just factory settings, I pointed PSP to the second location.
Only to find out that the whole folder had disappeared. Stored on a seperate drive. :(
So now I have my icons back to normal, but have to treat PSP as a fresh install or do a system restore to the previous day and end up with the mixed up icons. :evil:

@MarkZ
Thank you for your explanation and warning.
As I responded to Jean-Luc...the workspace file is overwritten and the copy has disappeared.
Should have tried your second tip first. :?

Zantara,
sorry for the inconvenience.

I thought you were working like old time users :
- backup, save, etc. ...
- create a different folder, outside the folder created by PSP, for storing ALL the stuff you create AFTER a fresh install (Preferences, workspace, scripts, plugins, brushes, etc.). The folders created by PSP during install are altered or removed when you do a reset or you reinstall... I have a folder in "My documents" named "PSP files" with subfolders like "Workspaces", "Plugins", etc.
- in Preferences, file location, add the extra folder for your workspace and the other stuff ...

Hope it will help...

Best regards,
Jean-Luc
