VS X6 cant open mp4's
Suddenly VS ult. X6 pro won't open mp4 files. VS is failing me yet again. I tried dragging the files in and I tried file/import to timeline, library but that didn't work either. It says file format mismatch...really? Mismatch???

Re: VS 6 cant open mp4's
Hi
Does this happen with all MP4 types?
If you can upload samples to a sharing site, OneDrive etc. we can try the files for you? They may work with the latest version.
Corel are / were offering X9 at a very low price, offer through the popup adverts when closing your version. Look out for that.

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
I think I'm going to reinstall x6 and see what happens. Thanks. Btw, I'd rather not upgrade VS because I can't get into the forum with my computer...just the phone and phone typing is a pain to me. VS is a big disappointment to me. Nothing but problems.

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
I think all your problems are related to your Toshiba portable and has nothing to do with VS. You did say it may have been dropped and it has not been working properly since then. A 1.4Ghz CPU is really not good enough to do any meaningful video work

Re: VS 6 cant open mp4's
You are not giving much detail about your video files, does the problem occur with all MP4's or just a few.lata wrote:Hi

Where did the MP4 files come from, Iphones and Tablet video etc. can be a problem for video editors.
I assume these MP4 have worked for you in the past? If always problematic then you should consider your PC's capabilities as canuck mentions.
As I said if you can make samples available we can try on our pc's, at least it may id the problem, VS or PC or simply corrupt MP4

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
Ok, Trevor
The problem has been occurring only on my latest files as of about 4/8/2016 and later. Before that, all the other files have been opening with no problem...to the timelline or the library, it didn't matter. They also opened the other ways to like file: open to timeline or library, etc. Now I tried everything and they won't open at all or save to library.
I never used onedrive but I'll get on that and upload a file or two there and let you know where it is.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
What's the specification of the MP4 video? Note that MP4 is just a container or wrapper contains various codecs and other data. Perhaps the codec is not recognized. Do you have any other MP4 files? Same problem? Or transcode MP4 to MKV with H.264/AAC encoder. Lots of freeware like Handbrake, Freemake, etc can handle it ...

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
Zoroku,
I appreciate the help but I have no idea what your talking about. If I knew all that stuff I would have fixed it myself a long time ago. All i know is that I was always able to open MP4's for years before VS stopped opening them a couple weeks ago. I know nothing about codecs or anything that's the inner workings of an MP4.
I just know that I used to open them before without even a doubt that they would open and now I can't open one that I recorded recently. I can open MP4's that I recorded until a couple weeks ago but not the recent ones.

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
Trevor, I can't upload a video into google drive because I have a very weak internet connection. I did however make a screenshot of the problem in VS. Here it is...I hope. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4wLg ... TZIN05XUFE The videos in the timeline, (in case your wondering) are ones that I recorded weeks ago when everything was fine. But the more recent videos cannot be inserted.
The video shows what happens every time I try to open an MP4 file for the last week or two. Any MP4's I made before that will open with no problem. But now when I make a video, it ALWAYS shows that error message and VS will not accept the MP4 file. It might have something to do with my phone camera or VS or something but the problem is somewhere and I'm just trying to find out where.
Also, this shows what happens when I open it that way...with that method, but I get the same result no matter which of the 5 or so methods there are to import or insert a file to VS.

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
Hi Robert
First we cannot open the image from that link as you have not given permissions as public, I suspect set as private.
I don’t think showing the actual details of the error message is gonna help us anyway.
You mention using a phone to record video, these can be trouble some for video editors as the device may use a variable frame rate.
Are you sure you are using the same recording properties / type when recording the latest video.
Video samples for us are the best way, one that works and one that does not.
I assume you have tried using one of the older recordings and that they still work.
That would indicate that VS has not changes so the video must be different.
There were some issues using some Mov and MP4 types, corel did provide a fix by replacing a dll file, Unfortunately they were for X7 and X8, I cannot say if the files will work for X6 without testing your samples.
I mentioned updating to X9, Corel were giving a very good deal at $15 for the ultimate.
You should download the trial version to see if that will cope with the MP4.
Zoroku’s advice on converting the video to a more editable format may be the only way to go given the source id IPhone.
Simple changing the files extension to MKV may work if you owned X8 or X9.
Matroska codecs were first provided with X8, I doubt that X6 can play MKV files.
Format Factory is another video converter, installing does try to install other bits and pieces as does most free software, however just take care to install Format Factory only, saying no or disagree to other options
http://format-factory.en.softonic.com/
So either convert the video or provide samples so we can try other options.
I think you should upgrade to X9 especially if you can secure that $15 offer?
I have just ran X6 and the offer was still available £11.99 in UK

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
Thanks Trevor, I got an email that Ken was trying to open the file but needed permission so I ok'd the permission I don't know I he was able to view it or not though. But is was just showing the error message so no big deal I guess. I'll try again to load a file that works and one that doesn't and I'll find the setting to make it public. I know what your saying about the upgrade so I'll think about that if I can't get this problem fixed. I just don't like to reward a company that doesn't seem to care about it's customers. Anyway, I'll work on sending the files to Google drive. Thanks a lot I appreciate your help.

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
I downloaded that clip (0398.mp4) and inserted it successfully in X6, X7, X8 and X9. It plays in all of them without trouble. Indeed I have done this on two separate computers -- though I have to add both are running Windows 10 (one of them Win 10 Pro). I am a little curious, though, because the video you were trying to open in that video had exactly the same name. However, I am assuming you had the same trouble with the other mp4 files showing on the Open screen...?
Unfortunately, I don't have any computers running Win 7 any longer so I can't test that aspect.
I was also a bit puzzled about the Corel support person's statement about some conflict with your on-board Intel graphics. I notice that you appear to have a second generation Intel setup. My Win 10 Pro machine also has second gen Intel, and the other one has fourth generation Intel. So they clearly have no trouble between VS and Intel.
On the other hand, one of the Corel execs with whom we deal has advised that Corel is in fact working flat out to fix problems which have been found between VS and fifth and sixth generation Intel graphics. They are also aware of your problem (probably from the Corel tech person with whom you spoke) and are working on that too.

If you click on the link given above, there is another button to request permission to download. I used that and got a pretty quick reply from Robert...

Re: VS X6 cant open mp4's
Hello Everybody,
I finally got on a connection so I can get on the forum. I have links to some files on my Drive account. Two of them don't open on my computer in VS and one of them does. Here is the list of links:
This is the one that opens:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4wLgm ... sp=sharing
These are the two that dont open:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4wLgm ... sp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4wLgm ... sp=sharing
I have many other videos that do or don't open. Most of them open but some of the most recent ones don't.
I think I shared the files correctly this time. I chose the option that anyone with internet can open them. Just to be on the safe side.
