Hi. I know this may seem silly to ask this but, I still need to ask it. I purchased the special offer to upgrade from my existing VS Pro X5/Ultimate to VS Pro X9/Ultimate. I have already downloaded the installation files to my hard drive. However, I'm uncertain where to install this "upgrade". When the install program asks for a path to install to, am I supposed to install it to the SAME path where my X5 version is now located, and write the upgrade over the top of the existing older version? Or, should I create a new path and install it there? By default, the install program has chosen my Desktop, which I don't want it installed to. My X5 is not installed on the Desktop. And, of course, their installation program does not detect where my existing product is installed (the one which is supposed to be "upgraded")." So, I'm a little confused. I'd love some good advice before really messing things up.
EDITED 5:23PM (Pacific)time in California:
As a last-minute thought... will upgrading to X9 prevent all the other addon tools (which I got with my X5 version) be lost/unusable afterwards? Plus, will I also lose any existing work I still have in my X5 version?

Just install VSX9 to it's default locations, VSX5 can remain and both programs will be available to use, only one at a time of course.
Whilst you have purchased the "Upgrade" what you have downloaded is the full version, the only difference is that the upgrade will ask for your previous version reg.key as well as the VSX9 key, if VSX5 remains installed then the upgrade will pick up the reg key automatically

Hi Robert. Thank you for replying!RobertOZ wrote:Just install VSX9 to it's default locations, VSX5 can remain and both programs will be available to use, only one at a time of course.

Its Default location is to the Windows' Desktop, but It does offer a me a chance to create my own path to a folder. For instance, C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoStudioX9, which I believe I will do since almost all my other programs are installed similarly. I just wanted to make sure that I was NOT supposed to 'upgrade' X5 to X9 by using the same path and folder X5 is in now. It's seems like Corel's word "Upgrade" is a misnomer since the program is being installed as a Full "Stand-Alone" program. But, I'm happy it does work that way! lol
I'm glad you mentioned that I can still use X5, when I need to, even though I would still have to go through that lengthy process of dealing with MS's 3 update files which cripple VS X5.
Questions about the registry key:
Will I have to get X5 into a run-able state (by hiding MS's 3 files) BEFORE I start installation of X9? Or, will the X5 "Key" info be found in my System Registry by the X9 install program? I'm not sure what I should do about this.

VSX9 should be installed into C;\ProgramFiles NOT C;|ProgramFiles(x86) the download manager would have identified that you have a 64 bit OS and downloaded the 64 bit version, unless you choose to download the 32 bit versionOld_Friend wrote:

VSX5 will not run with the problem windows updates installed, you will need to uninstall those updates, then hide them, if you want to continue running VSX5
I cannot see any obvious reason why VSX9 will not pick up the VSX5 key, just because VSX5 is currently disabled, try installing VSX9 and see what happens

Re: VideoStudioX9/Ultimate Upgrade-Which Folder?
The request to use the desktop is just for the installation files - NOT for the final programme location - the download is unpacked by default to the desktop - but if you don't like that you can direct it any where else, not necessarily to the program folder - maybe a 'temp' folder
Once X9 has been installed then there will be bits all over the computer with the main programme being in the program folders - you can if you then want to delete the unpacked download
the install of X9 will not change anything regarding X5 - but neither will it automatically transfer any add-ons which where specific to X5 although depending on what exactly you mean by add-ons some can be manually transferred

Re: VideoStudioX9/Ultimate Upgrade-Which Folder?
Thanks everyone for the replies. I finally got X9 Ultimate installed which took well over 8 hours, non-stop! I thought my hard drive was going to catch on fire.
I did learn that Corel went ahead and installed the program to the same (ridiculous) location it used when it installed X5. Installing a "Program" under the "Documents" folder makes no sense at all to me. It is not a document and neither does it create them. It installed it to [C:\Users\Larry\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\19.0]. It seems to have ignored the path I typed into its custom-path dialog. Oh, well. Everything seems to be working now although I was too tired to test it completely. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm happy it doesn't require removing/hiding MS's KB update files! Big grin!
Thanks again for the wonderful support.
