Import Photos from Folder crashes halfway through

Import Photos from Folder crashes halfway through
Every time I get halfway through importing my 4,450 images into a new catalogue, the program crashes. I've tried: 1) rebooting 2) cleaning the PC with a utility 3) uninstalling and then doing clean new install of ASP2. Nothing works. Crashes at exactly the same point every time when importing into a catalogue. I've gone through virtually all my image folders and tried to eliminate any file which is not an image file, but I don't know if that is necessary. Since it crashes at the same point, I thought that might be the cause, but now I doubt it since being sure all non-image file extensions have been removed. This happened with v2.2 and now with 2.4. Any clue? I can't organize my images if I don't have them all in a catalogue.
