White balance pre or post production

Post by MikesMovies »

Hi

This thread refers: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59021

Given I will be using Chroma key, I am wondering about 'white balance' my camera can learn white balance and of course Studio allows me to change the white balance.

But which is best?

I am considering introducing a white A4 page at the start of each clip so I can tell studio exactly what white looks like, or of course I could make the camera learn white with the same sheet.

Be most interested in your thoughts?

Regards

Mike

White balance should always be set correctly when shooting, if time permitted.
Having said that, most of the times I'm OK with VS correction.

Hi Mike

Having an Orange / Blue / Green screen will cause some colour cast I would take that out during recording.
I would set the cameras white balance, that way the recorded colours will be correct.

Absolutely the right thing to do. Make sure all the lighting is as it will be when you do the actual recording, so if you are indoors recording a play and the house lights will go down and stage lights come on, do all of this to set your white balance.

If you then go outside, reset your white balance.

If you record at different times of the day reset your white balance each time as the suns light will change.

Etc etc.......
