Have no idea how you got the frame rate of 29.918fps in your project. Now, at last, I Shared>"same as project">using the properties quoted above, the results were three consecutive render failures at 26%, 75%, and 25%.

In other words the VSX9 Ult crashes when using your 4K clips with correct frame rates/consistent frame rates throughout, at least on my system. It does not appear to be connected to the CPU because Ken has no problem.

Thanks for all that good work and for sharing the results, John. Now if there is a way to figure out what is causing the failures. It has really sapped the joy of shooting and editing projects, although I have some outside editing work with non-Panasonic video clips that is interesting. I just can't reliably shoot and edit my own material in 4K in VideoStudio. At least not on the powerful HP computer that I bought specifically for 4K video editing.

So disappointing to read about all the problems you are having. I am like Ken in that I have no issues in my system. I tend to do complex but fairly simple editing (cuts, Mercalli, exposure filters) with my Panasonic 4K projects. I just got through doing 10 different projects from a Caribbean cruise with mixture of 4K clips, photos and 1080p underwater camera and I had no crashes.

I don't suspect your video files, nor your pc. I recommend a complete uninstall of VS, using the clean program after uninstalling. Then re-install. I find X9 a very reliable version. I know that this is a pain for you, but this is my best guess of where your problem is; something has been corrupted in your VS installation.

Thank you for the suggestion, Al Jimenez... I appreciate it. I had the exact same problem with X8 on this troublesome computer, so I lobbied the wife to get X9, telling her it would probably fix the problems. However, the problems are exactly the same. At the moment, I'm getting inexpensive promos to buy X10 ($25), but there will be no X10 for me if X9 can't be fixed.

Since X8 had exactly the same problems as X9 on this computer, I don't think an uninstall/re-install will fix it. There is something about the intersection of my HP computer's firmware, Win10, Corel VideoStudio and Panasonic's 4K 100Mbps encoding. I can edit 4K files from my Motorola cell phone all day without crashes. And I can edit Panasonic 4K video on my slow Dell computer all day without crashes. So it is not specifically the computer, not specifically VideoStudio and not specifically Panasonic's 4K -- but some combination of the three has drained the satisfaction of editing for me. Enough to make me climb the learning curve of another editing program.

Bob

Following on from your comment re your slow Dell computer, I tried your project (as downloaded - no changes) on my wife's old Sony Vaio computer upgrade to Win 10 64 bit from Win 7.

It rendered successfully, to the MP4, 40000kbps file. The setup was in PAL, I forgot to change to NTSC, but I think that was an added complication that VSX9 ignored. The rendering process was painfully slow.

It seems the lower end CPUs are completing successfully, albeit slowly. Whereas the higher end CPUs are tripping up. Ken's experience seems to confirm this.

Hi Bob

Some time back there was an issue with 4K and Corel provided a Hot Fix.
As far as I know that hot fix was included in the next Service Pack, so your program should be upto date?

However I have attached the Hotfix files, simply a replacement for the existing ulmp4lib.dll
I would advise that you re-name the original as ulmp4lib_old.dll, then you have that to fall back on should things get worse.

C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9

I am sure you have tried most things to fix this issue, in Preferences – performance tab.

Have you deselected Hardware Acceleration, then tried rendering.

Just clutching at straws…………..

Thanks, John. I don't think it is the CPU, per se... although it might be. I think it is more likely to be in the HP computer's firmware or some program it has running to monitor the computer's performance. Or there could be something about the way Win10 and VideoStudio interact with the firmware, display card or any number of unknowns. What I really need is for someone from Corel and HP to sit down with the computer and debug it. But that ain't gonna happen!

Thanks, Trevor! Yes, I've tried a lot of things. Remember that the primary problem is the computer crashing while editing, before I get to the point of rendering. It then may crash on rendering or may not, regardless of what I have selected.

I downloaded the x64 version of the ulmp4lib.dll... is that what's needed for a 64-bit computer?

Trevor, I found and replaced the .dll file (renaming the old dll file as you suggested) and attempted an edit. I had started an edit that I abandoned because of crashes, and the first file I dragged down to the timeline to add to that edit crashed VideoStudio. So, no change.

But thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Bob
Worth a try,

Another thought, have you ever installed cvsx9 32 bit program

No, I haven't. The whole point of getting this fast 64-bit computer was to take advantage of its speed, and I assume the 32-bit version would run a lot slower than the 64-bit. Would it even run at all?

Hi

yes we can install 32 bit on a 64 bit pc, I am running CVSX9 32 bit at the moment, and to be honest I have not noticed any difference in performance.
Although Capture Timelapse works using 32 bit but not 64 bit Hmmm

If 32 bit is more stable than 64 bit then maybe worth installing even if there is a speed reduction, but as I say I have not found any problems running 32 bit.

Besides if you are bothered about speed you should be rendering using same settings as original video, with matching project properties will take full advantage of Smart Render.

I will have to download it. Can I have both 64-bit and 32-bit versions loaded on the computer at the same time?

I found that the jump to 64-bit made editing smoother and faster. On my older (slower) Dell computer, I seldom made proxies of HD files when using 64-bit X8.

I honestly don't think Smart Render has worked for me in X8 or X9, even when I tell it to use the clip settings -- it always renders the way it renders. I notice that if I fix something after a render, then a second rendering goes MUCH faster. But maybe I'm not doing the "match settings" thing right.

Hi Bob

Unfortunately we cannot install 64 bit and 32 bit programs on the same PC, we are only allowed to install one version.
I do not know why that should be as we can install PSP 32bit and 64bit programs.

Yes you will have to download the files again, but try downloading the Main program only, then install.
If that works the download the Bonus and Ultimate packs.

I do not know what else to suggest, installing 32 bit is just another option to try?

You may wish to export your library for X9 64 bit, available again should you re-install 64 bit.
