Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Trevor - I haven't yet re-installed audio drivers. Thanks for mentioning that again.
Thanks for info that "can't find location" means service packs already loaded.
Until I can get help with the audio drivers. I found work around with X9 and that is to convert files to wmv. They play fine as wmv, no black video, as clips and audio is ok, no pops or clicks. I am going to do that to get thru these current projects.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
My VS Ulta. Pro X9 is crashing now too. Only about 2 seconds into opening. It's because I allowed my new computer to Update windows. Now VS crashes. I can't even use it. I did a search for the updates on these forums to see if I could find the updates which are the culprits but I can't find the posts that mention them.
If anyone knows please let us all know so we can all fix this severe problem.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Ok, I removed the updates that were installed yesterday, just before the problems started and it still crashes upon start up. Now I can't use VS Ult. X9 at all. It's ruined thanks to microsoft!

FWIW I updated two Win 10 computers in the past 24 hours, and VS X9 continues to work without problems on both...

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
So it might not be the updates then. One other time when I had VS pro x6, I had to uninstall 2 updates to make it work. Anyway, this time, I tried the "troubleshoot compatibility" option and it worked. I'd have to find that post again that someone wrote to get the whole function of it but anyway, it worked so far. Maybe I'll reinstall the updates since it apparently was some other problem.
It seemed like it was the updates though, because the problem happened the day after the updates installed.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Hi
New day - this morning I launched Video Studio 19.3.0.22 the program crashed immediately after the workstation showed
Launched ok on next run
As for DnD --= worked for first try then fails on additional DnD?
Post updated
DnD does not work when the curser is showing in the library or one of library image clips are selected.
Move curser from library (click Project word next to play) to deselect clip and DnD works

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Hi, all... it's been a while for me.
I'm about ready to give up on VideoStudio, and I've been a hard-core user since X2. I got a new HP computer last fall with all the latest toys, and X9 crashes whenever I edit 4K video files from Panasonic cameras. It doesn't crash with the 4K video files from my Motorola cell phone, just 4K video files from Panasonic cameras. (And I've tried four different Panasonic cameras.) Today, I got four video clips on the timeline before it crashed. It then crashed after each subsequent clip. (I can get a new clip on the timeline, save it, then the next clip crashes the software. So I re-open VS X9 and get another clip on the timeline, save it, and it crashes for the next clip.) I gave up and used PowerDirector 15 to complete my project -- I bought PowerDirector a couple months ago when X9 was driving me crazy with crashes. My project edited perfectly on PowerDirector 15 with no crashes, and PowerDirector has the advantage of rendering 4K files at 50Mbps instead of the lower rate (40Mbps) used by VideoStudio (and VS X9 will not allow me to create a higher-bandwidth profile for 4K video).
I updated my computer's display drivers, made sure I had the right version of QuickTime and got the X9.5 update -- and VS X9 still crashes with Panasonic 4K video files. I'm editing a complex project shot in HD using Sony cameras, but once that is done, I think my time with VideoStudio is over. I know there is some sort of interaction between my HP's firmware, Windows 10, VideoStudio and Panasonic's 4K encoding, but I have lost interest in jumping through the hoops necessary to find it.
FWIW, I have edited more than 1,000 YouTube videos on some version of VideoStudio. Since I am doing increasingly more professional video work, I will probably get Blackmagic Design's free Davinci Resolve software and use it. It is increasingly used professionally in the video industry.
However, if anyone has any magic bullets to get X9 to stop crashing when editing Panasonic 4K files on my HP Win10 computer, I'll give it one last go.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
I've created several projects using 4K videos from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 Digital Camera. These files have the following properties: I generally render the projects out with the following properties: VS crashes at times but so far I've been able to complete the projects.pvreditor wrote:X9 crashes whenever I edit 4K video files from Panasonic cameras.

You should read this thread:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=61617
that discusses Panasonic camera video clips. The summary is that I own two Panasonic cameras and do complex 4K projects just fine with X9. We'd be happy to help you overcome the problem, but you need to be willing to give more details about what you are doing.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Thank you guys for the quick responses. I have an older Dell computer with Win7 and VS X8 that works fine with minimal crashing with the Panasonic files, but it's just slow. So I bought a MUCH faster HP with Win10, and had tons of crashes with VS X8. I figured an upgrade to X9 would fix the problem (and that's how I laid it out to my vigilant wife), only to be whacked in the head with just as many crashes as X8.
I shoot 4K at the Panasonic cameras' 100 Mbps setting. One camera is a ZS100 and the other is a GX8. I've also shot with a Panasonic AG-UX180, and it seemed to not crash VS X9 so much.
I think the fault lies in the intersection of the HP computer, Win10, VS X8/9 and something to do with the way Panasonic encodes its 4K files. I have crashes when I render, and those are frustrating. However, most times that I edit multi-clip videos, I can't even get to the point of rendering. It most often crashes when I place a new clip on the timeline, then play the project to make sure things are the way I want them. More often than not, it crashes at that point, dumping me out of the software and losing whatever I had not saved.
I'd like to give the whole setup to Corel and tell them not to give it back until it works.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
A long time ago, though not in a galaxy far, far away, when AVCHD was just starting off as the new wonder format, a lot of people were having trouble with Panasonic AVCHD, and it seemed that Panasonic had somehow or other tweaked the codec in their war of attrition with Sony. And VS at the time could not deal properly with those tweaks. I still have a couple of folders on another computer containing samples sent by users of Panasonic AVCHD. It might be helpful if you could send us a couple of small 4K sample files from your two cameras to see if we have any difficulty with them. You could make them available on a sharing site like Dropbox, One Drive or something similar.
I also should ask if any capture software came with your Panasonic cameras, and if so, whether you installed it. Back in the AVCHD days, that was found to be helpful to some users since it seemed to install the tweaked codec which in turn got around at least some of the problems being encountered.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Ken, I uploaded five short 4K videos from my Panasonic ZS100 to WeTransfer. These are all birds that showed up today at my backyard suet feeder within a two-minute time frame, as I stood 4 meters away. Anyone who is interested can download the files -- the link should be good for seven days: https://we.tl/wDV2iakmg4
Thanks!

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Hi Bob
I downloaded those samples and was able to add to X10 with no problems or rather no crashes.
Although clip playback was a little unusual in that the clip continued to play a second after the curser stopped moving.
Now I notice you are using X9
Again the clip playback was strange with playback continuing after curser stops.
No real problems although I have to use Proxy files for project playback.
But no crashes so far.
Rendering the 5 samples seemed ok for both X9 and 10
I will test a bit more to see if I can make it crash
If you create your own project using the samples, save the project as VSP and zip to attach to your post.
We can download and test your project and see what edits you have used.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Thanks for checking, Trevor. I will do a quick edit, save the project file and upload it. I had problems yesterday when I numerous short clips (shot with the same ZS100 camera) and did short crossfades between them. The crash usually occurs when I attempt to play back the project on the timeline.
FWIW, I usually do not make proxies unless there are files on overlay tracks. If everything is on the timeline, my computer is fast enough to play them without problems. Also, I learned the hard way that when X9 crashes, all my proxies disappear and need to be re-generated. Mind you, the proxy files were still on the hard drive, but the crash unlinked them from the project. These dead proxy files once grew so numerous that I could not do anything on this fast computer, which has a 128GB SSD for the boot drive. I had to find the folder where they were and clear them out before I could get VS X9 to run. Now I'm leery of generating proxies but will if necessary.

Re: Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes
Hi Bob
Yes I have had some problems using X9 32 bit.
I wondered if longer video would cause issues so I added the samples to the timeline multiple times, then rendered to same as first clip.
That worked ok producing a longer sample at 7 min 44 sec and 5.2 Gb
I used that clip in a new project cutting into sections, removing clips from the ends, added CrossFade, then rendered to same as first Clip.
Progress bar started reasonably fast but slowed to a crawl, at 99% program showed as Not Responding via Resource Manager.
This is quite normal for video studio which usually recovers, this time took so long I terminated the program.
CVSX10
Tested same renders using X10, same results although program did recover from “not responding”.
Video Studio then reported frame 10641 cannot be read.
Ok to that, no files saved
Continued to work with project, program crashes.
Back to X9 to repeat tests and again 99% not responding with my 4 cores fixed at 100%.
I leave the process running much longer, eventually program responds, but no files are saved.
So yes I am having problems in working with these files.
X9 again
Using the sample clips I trimmed the ends and again added crossfade just to simulate an amount of editing. 13 second project
Share Same as First Clip
No problems project rendered ok.
