Videostudio Ultimate x9 crashes

Post by penelopeperils »

I need help with my software because it keeps crashing. Someone said to fix crashes go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates. Top left - Remove KB3126587 and/or KB3126593 In addition KB3140410. I looked and my computer does not have those updates. So here is my problem. I bought a new computer that had Windows 10 on it. My VideoStudio Pro x8 would not work so I thought something happened with the download to the new computer so I purchased (not upgraded) to x9 Ultimate and still the same problem. More specifically. if I try to import an avi or anything other tha jpg or mov file it immediately crashes, if I try to import more than one file at a time it immediately crashes, if I work with it for more than a few minutes it crashes. The wording is it "has stopped working". If I try to use Corel 3d it corrupts my Corel x9 afterwards where I cannot play anything without it crashing. So I had to delete 3d off my computer. Each time it crashes it deletes Boris out of my software and sometimes other features as well. Support has reinstalled my program numerous times and then repaired Boris so it would show up and this works for about an hour and then the same problem again. Corel says it is not Windows 10 causing the problem because Corel was made for Windows 10. I asked them if it is quicktime because my AfterEffects uses a later version of quicktime then corel does for this program and again they said no. Can someone please help me on this because their uninstalling and then reinstalling is not working.

The updates you listed were for Windows 7 - you will not find them in Windows 10

have you installed Service Pack 1 for X9 which is available here :-

Hi Penelope

Welcome to the forums

My First thought was to ask you to contact Corel Support but after reading all the post I see you have already been there.

Are you getting any other messages, maybe a re-link option?

Although your pc is new can you check that the installed drivers are upto date.
Check Windows Optional Updates and the manufacturers site for driver updates.
Yes a strange request for a new pc, but I had same issues with a new Laptop, updating the graphics driver fixed it for me.

We should expect that new pc’s are up to date, but unfortunately that is not always the case.

Windows Update issues
Like Brian I thought these were initially a Windows 7 issue and that CVSX8 worked on Windows 10, again a reason to check those drivers.
You can try installing Hot Fix 2 for X8 same link as provided by Brian, X8 tab, not sure its gonna help?
I assume you have installed SP3 for X8, the version should be 18.6.0.6

Thank you to you both for responding to me. When I bought x9 Ultimate rather than upgrading from X8 it only had one download (unlike 8 which had the bonus content and one other download in addition to the main download). I did do the fix a few times but the issue keeps happening. I finally checked in the properties of x9 and it says under compatibility that it is only compatible with Windows 8, 7 and Vista. This morning when I got the problem closing down after I tried to use an instant template - I ran the program for details and it specifically says that x9 is not compatible with Windows 10. This has me concerned because Corel support has been telling me with each ticket that the two are compatible - it even says it in their press release. But obviously it is not. Do any of you know if it is a new computer that comes with Windows 10 - can I downgrade it to Windows 7 or 8? If not what do I do. I am not a smart person with computers but I am good at editing and am losing clients because I am missing deadlines. Thanks!

Hi Penelope

Can you make sure you have QuickTime installed on your PC

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_GB

Downloading Video Studio Ultimate X9 now uses Web Installer / Download file, this should download three files saved to a single folder on your desktop. You are best to backup those files, maybe save to disc?

The Web Installer would also install all files which does appear to install in one go.

Again if you still have problems after installing Quick Time then you should check the pc’s drivers, in particular that the graphics driver is upto date.

CVSX9 is compatible when installing to Windows 10, but clearly there is something amiss with your set up?

Hi Penelope

I would go your favorite Internet search and punch in windows 10 privacy concerns Those settings can interfere with your video demands due to Video Studio X9. Those settings are highly power demanding. I just got a Lenovo laptop running Win 10 and shot all those switches off. All of a sudden things are working. What can you loose. You can turn those switches back on but I would not.

Thank you. May I ask you another question. Someone told me that Ultimate x9 was supposed to come with more than 1 download in their email to me. For example when I got the x8 I had 3 downloads to do - one for the main, one for bonus and one for content. Instead of upgrading from x8 to x9 I bought the whole version (for $20 more than an upgrade) and it only gave me one download - the main download. A YouTube person said the x9 was supposed to come with more than 1 download and because I am using the bonus and content from x8 (yet x8 main download is deleted) and using the one download for x9 that this may also be the issue. Could you tell me how many downloads you had. Thanks@

As lata has already said above:

Believe us -- this is how it works. We were both beta testers for X9 and this web installer process is totally new to Video Studio X9 and different from previous versions. You first download the Web Installer single file, and when you then run it, it creates a folder and will download the three separate elements of the Ultimate package you listed (Main, Content and Bonus), but it downloads these as three separate files in the folder it created on the Desktop. It will then install each of these files automatically and you end up with X9 Ultimate.

You should not be using the X8 Content and Bonus with X9. Some of them just will not work with X9 because their coding is only linked to X8 and not X9.

As for X8, when it first came out Windows 10 was still pretty new. X8 worked with it, only some users had a few fairly minor problems. Corel then issued a hotfix for it which made it fully compatible with Windows 10, and making X8 turn into X8.5. There were other patches issued for it in addition, and the fully updated version is 18.6.0.6.

Interesting to read:

"Downloading Video Studio Ultimate X9 now uses Web Installer / Download file..."

I have never found a Web installer that works well - Adobe is the worst (I was a tester for 10 years).

Call support and insist on a full install download and don't give up except to demand your money back (then find a different product). If v9 and above are only Web stub installer based downloads then v8.5 will be the last for me.

After being a user of Corel since x3 and a WordPerfect person - I am giving up on Corel. The software now no longer stays on longer than a minute but it also deleted almost my entire video that I had been working on and yes you guessed it - another client as I can not make the deadline. And no I checked with IT and they did not find any viruses or malwares and my system they said was more than adequate to accommodate the requirements.

Hi Guys

The Web Installer is simply a link to the download files, but will also install the program if we wish.

We can choose “Download Only” that does as it says, downloads the program files to a folder on your desktop, and if the Desktop is unsuitable we can choose another save location.

If you have purchased the Ultimate version then you will get 3 files.
We can also choose to download the Main program only, if we wished.
Then run again to download the other two files, one at a time if we wish, which should help with slow download connections.

Within the Video Studio folder should be 3 files
1 / Standard Content folder (1.18 Gb)

A 64 bit folder containing…

2 / Ultimate folder (1.07Gb), this is the main program.
3 / Bonus Feature folder, contains the ProDad etc. Installation files (1.55Gb)
for 64 bit you should have these highlighted folders
for 64 bit you should have these highlighted folders
Manually install….

Using the above folders we can manually install the program by selecting the setup.exe file.

4 / for the main program run Setup.exe from the Ultimate folder
5 / to install the Standard Content run “setup_CHD.exe”
6 / to install the Ultimate Bonus files ProDad etc. run “setup_Bonus.exe” from the “BonusFeature” folder.

Penelope

Make sure you have installed the program in full.

Please check your download folder for its content, have you downloaded all three files / folders, for 64 bit the total size is approx. 3.81 Gb

Now try a full manual re-install of the program.

Post Edited

Oh and not wanting to ask to many times, did you check that QuickTime is installed?

Did you consider that your drivers may not be up to date even though the computer is new?

This is such a nightmare! I have been using X4 until Microsoft updates and forced X4 out. I really wanted to use Corel VS again so I bought a new computer that run Windows 10. Bought X9 Ultimate today and I was very excited to start. But it's so bad that it kept crashing every 30 seconds. I couldn't even save fast enough to keep any work. What a waste of time!

They forced us upgrade but leave us out in the cold trying to figure out how to fix the problems they created for us. I really regret buying the X9 Ultimate. After all these years of using VS it's time for me to call it quit. Any suggestion what other program to buy?

Hi althetrainer

Sorry you are having problems with X9, you should of course have a money back guarantee period I think 30 days so you should not be out of pocket.

Have you installed QuickTime?

Are you having problems when using the library samples or is it specific to the type of files you are using?
Can you give details of your video files? Right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?
What device was used to record the video?

As the program is new I would contact Corel Support which should be free for a limited period.

But certainly if this is a common problem then Corel do need to know.

Thanks Lata for your reply. Installing QuickTime was my first attempt to get it to work but it made no difference. I used my JVC camcorder to make those clips and they're in MTS format. I know some people suggested changing them to M2TS. I tried but it crashed in less than 15 seconds. Even if it worked it would be a pain for me to change every single one of them for my video is a compilation of hundreds of short clips. I just don't understand how a company can make a software that requires you to change your media source to make it to work.

If I contact Corel what do I tell them? It's not like they didn't know about this crashing problem because everyone is complaining about it. Just check the reviews on Amazon (should have believed them). The last time I contacted them about getting my X4 to work they were less than friendly and supportive. They simply told me about the Microsoft updates and said there's nothing I could do other than buying a new version. It turned out I could disable the two files in questions to make X4 run on my windows 7 laptop. Of course, they didn't tell me that. Seemed like once you purchased their product they have no intention to help at all.

I have been using Corel VS for a long time. The X4 would crash once in a while but I could live with it. I bought X9 because I didn't want to have to relearn a different software, and even bought a new windows 10 laptop for it. I've read bad reviews on their new VS versions, one after another, since X4. I wonder how a company wants to stay in business can expect their customers to be loyal to their products.

Hi althetrainer

Can you make a few video clips available to download, you would have to upload to a sharing site, Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive work well.

I am quite willing to give them a go on my pc, although I run windows 7, it may be a windows 10 issue.

Are you having any other issues in using the libraries samples, any errors or re-link requests?

I had a lot of problems with a new Lenovo laptop, turned out to be the graphics driver needed an update, as I said a brand new PC, you would not expect that.

I guess I am asking that you check the manufacturers web site for any updates.
