PSP X8 install: Hangs at "Please wait...NET Framework 4"
I'm fresh on a new Windows 7 install. I'm an existing PSP X8 user, but I'm having trouble installing it.
My PC is more than sufficient to run this software, as I've been running it for years. During the install process for PSP X8 x64, when it gets to "Please wait while we configure .NET Framework 4", it sits there for at least ten minutes while it blatantly teases me about its features while I literally wait forever.
I've never had this issue before install Paint Shop Pro X8. Can anyone give me any pointers to resolve this?
Frustrated. Thanks in advance.

Re: PSP X8 install: Hangs at "Please wait...NET Framework 4"
I tried using the PSP X8 Cleanup tool. Obviously it didn't find an installation, but it removed registry entries. I tried reintalling.
It installed "a li'l bit", but at that same section, it aborted with the following window. Asia? WTH? "Derp."
I've never seen this issue installing this software before. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Have you tried re-downloading in case you have a corrupt installer?

Installer is fine.
.Net 4 "hang-up" comes to eye when you does not have installed .Net Framework 4 or newer AND you do not have internet connection, latest v4.6.1 can be downloaded here:
- Web installer https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=49981
- Offline installer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102436
So, you have to cancel installer when you "hang" at this message & install .Net 4 by yourself.
Note: Latest PaintShop Pro X8 with SP1 does require .Net.

RADIM:
Thank you for your response (and solution) to my issue. I had abandoned the thread by the time you posted, which is why this follow-up is late. I've confirmed that .NET Framework v4.5 or newer is required to run PSP. This is why it was necessary to install all important Windows updates (200+) before installing PSP.
But I'm wondering how I was supposed to know that .NET Framework was required? It took me a month to discover this before I saw your reply, and I've never heard of anyone having the same issue. I'm stunned that this requirement isn't documented anywhere (but please correct me if I'm wrong).
But anyway, with your help, I've confirmed the solution. The newest .NET Framework is intact (via Windows updates) and PSP X8 SP2 is running fine.
Thanks again!

If a program requires other software, like .net framework or as an example shockwave flash, it should be included in the installer, or give you a message that you need to install a certain program before installation.
I don't think it's too much to ask for Corel to improve their installers.

Or perhaps it is a good idea to make sure your programs and windows installations are up to date before installing newer programs.
But on the other hand how easy or hard is it to have a check during installation made that a particular necessary program is current and up to date.
I have installed a number of Bigfish games and some of them require a certain version of Active X or that Net Framework be adjusted. The installers check for it and download and install the necessary components.

If the install hangs at this point, update your .net framework...I went from 4.0 to 4.5...Did the trick

Re: PSP X8 install: Hangs at "Please wait...NET Framework 4"
Just hang on a cotton picking moment. Why should us mere mortals have to check for updates to install any program? Huh? How the heck do we even know what to check for? How do we know what software Corel/PSP needs or what is installed on our computers? Where on ANY Corel web site does it give those details? Sure min system requirement but software?
No I've been working/programs computers since they had a whole 32k of ram and 32k of rom. I have no idea what is on my computers and don't intend digging into hidden corners to find out either.
Go into a store and purchase a new computer. Then tell me I have have to check for software/updates to install whatever? No.
Silly idea to put that onus onto a user. New or old.

just a ps. I recently fell for the trap of turning on auto updates for Windows. Long long story. But it hung and I was in all sorts of trouble even trying to turn on the darn computer. Check for updates? Pssssstffffff

.Net 4.5 fixes this, which is only in the MS site, not in the link Corel sends you to download. Fixed that error for me of the hangup.

Re: PSP X8 install: Hangs at "Please wait...NET Framework 4"
I'm trying to install PSPX8 64-bit on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and am having similar problems to those experienced by others in this thread, only in my case I can absolutely guarantee I have .NET Framework v4.6.1 installed. Yet it is on “Please wait while we configure Microsoft .NET Framework 4 …” near the beginning of the installation that the installer craps out in my case as well, only, as I said, I absolutely have v4.6.1 installed. I even ran Framework's installer and did "repair" even though it didn't need a repair, but it didn't change anything.
The error code that appears is simply "42". I assume that's an error code, it doesn't actually say so, it says “Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click finish to exit the wizard.” then a couple lines below that a lone "42" appears. I have tried to search what that error code is but come up totally empty . . . in fact I tried to search for a complete list of installation error codes and also come up empty, which really surprised me.
I've installed this exact software (the same executable) on this exact computer before without issue, so I don't know what's going on and am having an awful time finding information about it. I did find this thread, but as I said Framework 4.6.1 is installed. I also have a live internet connection during the installation so that's not it either. Does anyone have any ideas? Heck if someone could tell me where I can get a list of error codes and their meanings that would be enough for me to go on.

I don't have the answer to your problem, but until somebody comes along with a real answer you could try installing without an internet connection and see if that works. That's assuming you have the installation executable and the install files don't need to be downloaded for the install.

Re: PSP X8 install: Hangs at "Please wait...NET Framework 4"
Thx for your prompt reply. Ironically, the reason I mentioned I have a live connection is because I read in another thread somewhere that the installer will fail at “Please wait while we configure Microsoft .NET Framework 4 …” if either Framework is not present or if no internet connection is detected (?!).JoeB wrote:I don't have the answer to your problem, but until somebody comes along with a real answer you could try installing without an internet connection and see if that works. But it was worth a shot, so I just tried it again only this time after disconnecting internet first … no dice. Thx anyway. I really need to find what that error code 42 means.

Re: PSP X8 install: Hangs at "Please wait...NET Framework 4"
FWIW I have installed PSPx8 on 3 computers, yes Corel I'm naughty, but I need 2 for my PSP. 1 computer is for internet use only and the 2 work/PSP computers NEVER get connected to the net.In all cases PSPx8 installed ok. (Technically I only have 2 working installations of PSP).
If I recall you need the internet to down load a small installer. Then once started the 'rest' of PSP is downloaded. Once those files are on your computer you no longer need the internet connection.
