Aftershot Pro2 version 2.4 Trial

Post by Jorma »

I have an a6000 , ILCE6000 and the only Sony a camera I see listed is the a3000 and none with the ILCE name. What gives? Is it because it is a trial version and the list in incomplete?

It looks to me as though the support for some E-Mount cameras has been provided using camera codes Corel invented for themselves. For example, Sony's UK website callls the A7R "ILCE-7R", whereas the camera correction database in ASP calls it "NEX-A7R". If the crop size on the a6000 and the a3000 were the same (I shoot A-Mount, and haven't followed all the travails of the E-Mount range), then the correction would be identical.

You could choose to rename the cameras in the database underlying ASP; this would make the models easier to recognise (and allow you to trim the list to include only E-Mount bodies), but if you do that, you should remember to make a backup of the database, because it will be rewritten on each update of ASP. The profiles are in supportfiles/Profiles/LensProfiles/profile_sony.txt.

Conclusion, it's kludgy as all get out, but you probably can make it work.

Well ICLE is the Sony designation prefix for all alpha' cameras so the UK list makes perfect sense. There are no ICLE's at all on my copy. Then too my vague understanding of sensors and RAW data is that there is a lot more to it than just crop size. The a3000 does not have the same sensor as the a6000 so why would that be appropriate.

I am a newbe hobbiest in all this and thought I had found an affordable alternative to Lightroom and Corel and others had mentioned it has all new cameras covered. Yet the a6000 has been one of the biggest selling cameras for two years and it isn't there, nor are there any alpha ones save the discontinued a3000.

Is there a way to ask Corel directly, before purchase?

Hi Jorma

First I don’t own Aftershot so cannot check the program but I viewed the Corel web page and seems to indicate that Sony Alpha A6000 (ILCE-6000), is supported

http://www.aftershotpro.com/en/products ... 3886#tab=5

Post updated

And here from Knowledge base
https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ra-support

you could try asking Corel on Facebook, I think this is staffed by Corel employees
as you say maybe it is a limitation using the trial?

My (probably imperfect) understanding is that ASP2 only uses the profile information in the database to correct various optical aberrations; the support for sensor specifics is provided by the binary code. This means that the same corrections apply to the Sony A77V (which is in the database) for a given lens as for the A77Mk2 (which isn't mentioned). The absence of the A77Mk2 from the optics database does not prevent ASP from processing my RAW photos correctly. If you look at the Metadata tab, and select the Default set of metadata, you should see the correct Sony identification of your camera. And your photos will be demosaiced correctly.

I leave it to someone who owns an E-Mount to discuss how best to deal with the Lens Correction issue. As far as I could see from the database, there aren't an awful lot of lenses calibrated.

The most effective way to get a response from Corel without spending money is to raise the issue on their FaceBook Page https://www.facebook.com/CorelAfterShotPro
They do 'lurk' here but rarely respond to issues raised.
