I have a lot of brushes all in the folders of the people who created them under the master heading of Brushes.
I have imported them into PSP X8 but they don't show up. When I import them from the folder where I have them where do they import to? There is nothing under documents/Corel/Paint SHop Pro/18/Brushes
I just am not understanding this whole brush process. It didn't used to be this hard to use my brushes.
If I try to import them again I get a message that says there is already a file by that name. Can somebody please give me a point by point on how to do this Please and thank you so much.
Regards

Re: Importing Brushes
No need to import those brushes if they are already PSP compatible. You can keep them in that Brushes folder and then just direct the X8 file locations to point to that folder as an extra source of brushes.
File > Preferences > File Locations > Add and navigate to that folder.
File > Preferences > File Locations > Add and navigate to that folder.

Re: Importing Brushes
Yes I have done that but they don't show up in the program. There is only about 4 folders that show up in the program. None of the others do whether imported or not

Re: Importing Brushes
Are you sure they are PSP compatible brushes.
If you check in your documents folder under Corel PaintShop Pro > and your version number 18.0 you will find the Brushes folder and each brush consists of two files .
These are the brushes you have saved or imported.
eg:
splash_water 001.PspBrush
BrushTip_splash_water 001.PspScript
If they are Photoshop Brushes then they are probably .abr files

Re: Importing Brushes
You use the term "imported" in your posts. Given that you don't see the brushes, I don't know what you mean by that term and am not sure you have done what Hartpaul suggested ("I have done that" says little about what you have done - perhaps you misunderstood).Loopy wrote:Yes I have done that but they don't show up in the program. I have ended up with brushes in different folders over time. When I open X8 and look in Preferences/File Locations/Brushes I see
C:\Users\My Name\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\18.0\Brushes
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X8\Corel_01
But I have consolidated my brushes in a different folder. So in Preferences/File Locations/Brushes I click on Add and in the window that opens I navigate to
C:\Users\My Name\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\PSP files
What I do is specify the path, not "import", to the folder I created to store various Brushes, Picture Tubes, etc. that I have collected with the various versions of PSP.
What is the path that you use to get to the master folder for your brushes?

Re: Importing Brushes
Mark you have to import the 'brushes'. You do that by going to File/export/custom brush. These brushes have worked fine in all other versions before PSP X8 so yes they are compatible. I also have all my PSP files on my 'd' drive and most are fine there but it doesn't see the bruushes.
Anyway I will figure it out. Everything you do I do or have done and nothing works. If you put them in C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X8\Corel_01, that totally crashed my laptop. Somebody told me to put everything in those # files and that was a disaster. Don't know why its so complicated this time around. Might just go back to using PSP X7. Never had this issue there.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Importing Brushes
and Mark, "I have done that" is precisely right. I was answering Hartpaul's question by saying I had already done what he suggested. Not sure why you can't understand that. Also what 'path' are you referring to for 'MASTER' folder for my Brushes? I don't understand that term.

Re: Importing Brushes
I was asking the question based on what you wrote on March 31 . . .Loopy wrote:Also what 'path' are you referring to for 'MASTER' folder for my Brushes? I don't understand that term .
You refer to a master heading for brushes and I didn't know what you mean by that and interpreted that to mean you had a master folder.Loopy wrote:I have a lot of brushes all in the folders of the people who created them under the master heading of Brushes
I have created brushes in the past, did so again just now and exported to a folder I chose. To use that brush in X8 I followed the steps that hartpaul and I outlined earlier and used it without "importing", simply accessed it from the selection of brushes available in all the folders I specified for brushes.
One last try - No need to put the brushes in C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X8\Corel_01 or some other special folder. You say that all your PSP files are in D drive. Let's say that your brushes are in folder D:\Documents\Corel\Brushes and some of the brushes are .pspbrush (or some other compatible format).
- Select the paintbrush tool.
- Click on the arrow at the right of the brush icon and the brush selector window opens.
- Click on the "file locations" icon and the brush file folder window opens (see attachment).
- If the D:\Documents\Corel\Brushes folder does not show up, click on ADD and navigate to that folder.
- Click OK and the next time you select the brush selector the folder and its brushes should be there. If you try this and the brushes you want still don't appear, let us know what you did step by step and the result you saw at each step.
