Thumbnails X8

Post by kiwozikonnections »

My apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong place here (I'm not great at Forums).

OS - Win 8 x 64; PSP X8 x 64
Along with many other users I see, I can no longer view thumbnails for psp files in Windows Explorer. I have only just upgraded from X6 and they were all visible back then.
They display fine in "PSP Manage", it only seems to be Windows Explorer and psp type files that have the problem. I have checked the Always show icons never thumbnails etc setting and they are all OK but still no luck.

It appears from my reading, that the only solution at the moment to make my newly purchased X8 work properly is via additional 3rd party software (which I am not prepared to do).
Any other solutions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

You could use the freebie from Bot productions, but am not too sure if it still works :
http://www.botproductions.com/pspthumb/index.html

Or, the one I have used for years, Mystic Thumbs, which is not just for seeing .PSPimage thumbs, but many other obscure file types.

http://mysticcoder.net/mysticthumbs.html

It is not expensive.
Hope that helps.

I am using Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba laptop and the thumbnails of psp files show correctly.
I opened up a folder in windows (PSP not opened at all) that contains jpgs and psp files. I clicked on View and Large Icons was highlighted.
Then over at the right hand side I clicked on Options > View and made sure that Always show Icons, never thumbnails was unticked, Display file icon on thumbnail was ticked.
I have Hide extensions for known file types unticked.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Thanks for the replies guys.
Like I said. . . not prepared to enlist 3rd Party "Bot" or "Mystic Thumbs" software just to get PSP to work properly :( Its just a matter of principal I guess (albeit that I might be cutting off my nose despite my face) and I have no thumbnail issues with any other file types.

Hartpaul - yep thanks - tried those. . . no fix.

Guess I'll have to settle for viewing thumbnails from within in "PSP Manage" rather than Win Explorer :(

If you read hartpaul's post you'll see that it works fine for him. So that would rule out it being solely a PSP issue.

Yes of course. . . .Wow I wonder if all the others out there with the same problem realise that the issue is really their PC's are not compatible. God forbid a workman blames his tools

I have Win 10 64bit and PSP X8.1.
Pspimage thumbnails are showing fine on my system without third party software.
My previous OS was Windows 8 and they were showing fine too.
At first, Windows Explorer needs some time to show them and you may think they will not appear. But when they appear, display is always immediate.

Nothing wrong with blaming your tools if, in fact, you are blaming the actual tool that isn't working. Windows Explorer, which is not part of PSP, seems to be where you're having your problem, so why you are suggesting that the tool with the problem is PSP is beyond me. Like Jean-Luc and hartpaul, I have no problem seeing PSPimage format files in Windows Explorer with Windows 8.1. I have both PSP X7 and X8 installed, but given they are not tied to Windows Explorer I don't see where it matters which version of PSP you have installed. If Windows Explorer is able to natively show PSPimage files, and if it does so on some people's computers, then if it doesn't do so on other people's computers that suggests a system incompatibility problem, and the incompatibility search should start with the program that seems to exhibit the problem - in this case, your (and some others') Windows Explorer.

In case you were unaware of it, the third party software mentioned by others do not plug in to PSP. They plug into Windows Explorer, and were developed as add-on utilities for Explorer which has been known to sometimes be deficient in its ability to properly render thumbnail images of some formats.

Just for the record, you can add me to those who have no trouble seeing an image for .pspimage thumbnails in Windows Explorer in Win 10 x64. I have PSP X6, X7 and X8 installed on this computer.

Problem Solved
This was originally a Digital Download installation ( i.e. not disc ). I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of the full "PSP Pro X8 Ultimate package" and hey presto all is as it should be and I can see all my files. :D :D :D

Thank you to all those who offered constructive posts.

Thank you for reporting back on having solved your issue. I would say that my PSP X8 was also a download installation, not disc, and I didn't exhibit your issue. Still, glad to hear that yours was solved with a disc installation, although not sure why that should have been necessary.

As to your last comment, I would have thought that all posts by those trying to help with your issue - which might be one others experience also - were constructive. JMHO, of course.
