"Input tracker unhandled exception"
Hello there!
These days I'm pondering to acquire PSP again (I did own an older version like ten years ago and wanted to return to this useful tool). I have a trial phase PSP X8 installed.
However, I've run into the weirdest problem.
The first version I had wanted to test was the X7 which I mistook for the latest. Upon using the pen / airbrush / eraser (..., i.e. for simplicity's sake "anything controlled by cursor") tools, the program would always freeze and crash (Eventvwr: Id 1000 @ \Commands\CmdFile.dll). I googled the problem, learnt about X8 by accident and thought to myself, well, maybe you should be using the newest version anyway — so I deinstalled X7 and entered a trial phase with X8.
The same error still occurs, though. Only this time it doesn't crash the application but prompts the following error message (word by word):
"Input tracker, unhandled exception, need to reset target doc to NULL"
What does that mean? What can be done about it?
My system is a Core i5-4590 + AMD Radeon R9 280 + 16 GB DDR3 RAM + 620GB SSD @ MSI B85M-E45, running a 64bit Windows 8.1. For testing purposes in view of this error, I've had both the 32bit and 64bit versions installed (to no effect). My drivers are all up-to-date.
I'm looking forward to whatever advice you may be able to provide.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
None here who can help me out? None of Corel checking in every now and again? That's too bad.
Anyway, I did come up with a solution in the meantime, even though the program is not as stable yet as it should be. The problem was caused by my Genius i608x graphic tablet's driver. I was told, however, that PSP and my Genius would be compatible, though. Is there something like a list which driver PSP can handle?

Hello back
I have been using Paint Shop pro since it was created in 1992.
I now have version 8 on Windows 10.
CmdFile.dll is a known issue with PSP and Windows.
From what I have researched, they say the dll gets corrupted by malware OR junk files that accumulate
(registry) after using your operating system for awhile.
There are a few supposed fixes one can download, however, I am afraid to try them.
Search Google for, fix CmdFile.dll paint shop pro
My opinion is, Corel needs to Fix It.
If you have any luck getting it fixed, please post that here.
I use NVIDIA GeForce GPU graphics cards

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
While I've never had the problem with PSP over several versions on the same operating system, I've had issues at times with other programs.
The Windows System File Checker tool scans for and repairs corrupted Windows system files- I've used it many times, it is safe and can't harm your system. Just follow the directions spelled out here- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
If PSP files are corrupted, then it's best to do a clean install using the tools listed at the beginning of the forum.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
Thank you for your reply Rondo,
I ran windows file checker, it states that there are no errors.
Typical windows behavior because it clearly states in the error logs that it is CmdFile.dll.
Believe me when I say that I have tried just about everything over the years.
Now that I recall PSP did run well on Vista.
I am going to try uninstalling both versions of PSP, reinstall the new one, see what happens.
Not very optimistic though as it will just install the same file again.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
Okey dey!
Yesterday I uninstalled all the free content from Corel, the plugins, then uninstalled X6 and X8, turned comp off, rebooted, reinstalled PSPX8.
I did not install any of the free content that came with it, no plugins, no extras, nothing.
This evening I worked in it several times, no problems.
Now the program crashed.
Exact same error reporting files as before.
This is just part of the error:
Application Error Faulting application name: Corel PaintShop Pro.exe, version: 18.0.0.2, time stamp: 0x57112dfb
Faulting module name: CmdFile.dll
I am not complaining, just saying is all.
It is just really hard to work on projects like this, and I really love Paint Shop Pro.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
Do you really NEED PSP X8?
Was your PSP X6 working correctly?
Can you reinstall PSP X6 and at least have it working correctly.
I am able to install and work with all the versions of PSP shown in my signature, but I still use mainly PSP X2 for grunt work and PSP X4 for text work. The others are just used for checking out some of the latest features which I rarely use anyway, and also to try and duplicate problems that others may have.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
I don't see a explanation or fix for this.

I had this yesterday in 64-bit PSP X7 and today in 32-bit PSP X9. I don't recall what prompted it yesterday but today I was doing a simple resize of an image and not a large one either, a 120kb png file.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
I am not absolutely sure about that one ADonahoo.
I could not find any information about the error pertaining to Paint Shop Pro.
Did you check your Windows error log for that?
A null exception usually means an image or a script is not available.
Sorry wish I could help.
When I get errors I just restart PSP or turn the comp off for about half an hour.
Some things are just a mystery, no one seems to know.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
I didn't see anything about PSP in the event viewer and I haven't had that problem again.

Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
Funnily enough i had this exact same problem yesterday. It was particularly annoying as i couldn't get focus back so had to force close the app.
Re: "Input tracker unhandled exception"
Has anyone been told by Corel support how to remedy this persistent error in PSP 2018 Ultimate?
I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled (even cleaned out the system registry), but this dialog box pops up when I try to add text, and the course arrow is replaced with a spinning circle (and never stops).
This "Input tracker unhandled exception" ERROR is even ocurring with new files with only one layer.
Waiting for support's response to my ticket.
