Nik collection now free

Post by kevinc54 »

Google is offering the NIk Collection 64 bit for free.
It works for PSP X8 64 bit. But you have to manually add PSPX8 as an app during installation.
install in PSP 'Plugins'

And where do you get them? And do you know if they are compatible with PSPX7? I gather from your post that there isn't a similar 32-bit collection available for free.

Joe - I tried with X7 and got an immediate crash of PSP. Maybe this will help http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=56873? I didn't try it because I am successfully using the Nik Collection with PSPX8's 32-bit version.

Thanks Kathy. I already use that plugin for Viveza, Color Efex and Silver Efex. I think I'll install this collection and see what happens.

I know that it says that in the compatibility list on the download page, but it does say Win 8 among other things, and just about everything compatible with Win 8 is compatible also with Win 10.

However, when I downloaded the NIK bundle on my Win 10 computer and pointed the Plug-Ins folder in my PSP X8 x64 to it, then restarted the program, the Nik plug-ins refuse to show up. I'll keep trying but it seems that indeed it may not be compatible with Win 10.

I didn't really want or need the Nik collection. But being a greedy ##### I downloaded it. 30 minutes to download.

Computer 1 - Win 7. i3. 64 bit. PSPx7. Crashed every time I tried one of the plugins.
Computer 2 - Win 8.1.i5. 64 bit. PSPx7. Crashed every time I tried to use the plugins. (I did get one to work after several tries).

Expect something for nothing and you more than likely get something, good for nothing.

I've emptied my basket of tricks.

Now I've emptied both computers of the Nik Collection.

Nothing is worth this sort of hassle.

This is an EDIT of my previous post. I now have all the Nik filters working in my X8 x64 in Win 10. It appears that I made the fundamental mistake in File > Preferences > File Locations of pointing to the Plugins > EN sub-folder of X8 rather than to the Google > Nik Filters folder. Once I corrected that, all the filters appeared and worked, without having to even restart the program.

I downloaded the whole thing, 439 MB, but only installed Viveza 2.
A clever plugin. But it does have some issues. I am sure I'll get my head around those, eventually. I like the plugin.
I use X8.

PS: yes, it took a long time to download, I did the ironing in the meantime!

I use Viveza 2 with PSPX7 (I use Nik plugin workaround script to get it to work). What issues are you having with it? I recall there were a couple I had initially but figured them out.

Downloaded in reasonable time, all plugins available on first try in X8 64bit. Haven't tried with other versions.

The preview sometimes looks washed out, as if it has been desaturated.
I have set it for a double screen which I assume means the original on the left and the adjusted image on the right, but the two always look the same, so when I use a control point, I don't see any updates in real time.
Am beginning to think now I can do all this in PSP and not bother with Viveza :-(

If I recall correctly, if you increase the zoom in Viveza to 30% or more then the colors work properly. Also, hitting the F key will make the filter interface full screen if it is presently opening at less than that, giving you more room to work.
