Grid Lines
I selected "Show grid lines" and they show ok.When I move along the timeline they do not show.I am using them so I can delete parts of clips that are not showing all of the subject. How do I keep the grid lines showing until I deselect the tick in the box ?

Re: Grid Lines
To clarify,
It is video I am editing in this case. What I really want to show is the "Safe Area" box all the time, not necessarily the grid lines

Re: Grid Lines
Safe area is irrelevant these days unless your CRT screen is still alive , and its days are numbered anyhow .

Re: Grid Lines
I don't think there is any way to keep the "safe area" marker or grid lines on view permanently Ken - they are only for use while adding titles and as soon as you do any editing they disappear
but it did seem strange to me that you wanted to deleted parts of the video you are making - if some part of an image do not appear why not just make the image a bit smaller - you do not have to fill the screen completely with videos or images - surely better to see all slightly smaller than not at all
open options panel - change to 'attribute' tab and tick 'distort clip' - but make sure you do not distort the clip by using only the YELLOW CORNER blocks - do not use the edge centre blocks or the green ones - then make the image a bit smaller
I am afraid your going to have to make a note of which clips are to big as you watch your video - then adjust inside Videostudio accordingly

Re: Grid Lines
OK
1. In reply to Brian ,when I said “so I can delete parts of clips that are not showing all of the subject” I was referring to a situation when part of a clip had the top of the subject cut off because of the way it was recorded- not because the clip was too big .It was these sections I wanted to delete from the clip. So making the clip smaller would not achieve what I want.
2. Does the safe area only apply when adding titles or does it only apply if you are viewing on a CRT TV (which I am not )
3 Can I forget about the safe area whatever I am doing ?
4 I assume using only the yellow corner nodes keeps the aspect ratio

Re: Grid Lines
Hi guys
as far as I know the safe area aka "over scan" still affects flat screens, maybe not to the same amount as older TV's
I am not at home at the moment so cannot test this, but will double check later.

It can be an issue with over the air reception but can be turned off on your screen/setup box.lata wrote:Hi guys

Re: Grid Lines
Hi Kenneth
From what I can gather your problem is the actual images being cropped to close to the subject, so heads are close to the edge.
As Brain says use Video Studio to re-size the clip using the distort option.
Or use the overlay tracks that also allows adjusting the size.
we don't always have to fill the screen with our images, and indeed probably not the correct ratio to do that.
Sometimes I add more than one image to the same frame using overly tracks, that can also work well.
I have also used an image editor to add a black / coloured border, 10% larger than the image.
I can then add images to the timeline without the need to re-size.
Quite a few options.

Trevor,
Re
"From what I can gather your problem is the actual images being cropped to close to the subject, so heads are close to the edge. "
In addition to my previous post whereI said “so I can delete parts of clips that are not showing all of the subject” I was referring to a situation when part of a clip had the top of the subject cut off because of the way it was recorded- not because the clip was too big "To clarify- when some parts of the clips were recorded, not all of the subjects head was in the video. It was these parts of the clip I wanted to delete(using multi trim).
I have indeed used o/lays to adjust size and well as sometimes inserting 3 stills or more at one time.Have also had multiple stills entering and leaving from various directions either all the same or different individual entry/ exit points with each different date sequence having a different background image( as the images were small.)
Sometimes, I have used Paint Shop Pro to add picture frames to jpegs but when wishing to add a colour border I have used the border arrow keys in the Mask and Chroma key option, is this what you meant by adding a border?-did you suggest using an image editor so as not to resize ?
Ken
