MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 conversion

Post by Weeination »

I have one of many files that are in MPEG-4 format which I want to convert to MPEG-2 video files using VideoStudio X8 for the purpose of making DVDs. When the video file is created there is audio but no video. I wonder if the change to 720 x 480 is part of the problem. When I try to make a video file with either "Same as Project Settings" or "Same as First Video Clip" a message appears saying "The frame size (352 x 266) of the video file does not match the settings and therefore cannot be trimmed". As a result, X8 does not render a video file with those options.

Here are the original video properties for one of the files.

File Format: MPEG-4

Video Type: H.264 Main Profile Video
Attributes: 24 bits, 352 x 266
Frame Rate: 29.970 frames/sec
Data rate: 698 kbps

Audio properties
Audio Type: MPEG AAC audio
Total Samples: 64,962,560 Samples
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit Stereo
Bit Rate: 128 kbps

I considered installing Format Factory but stopped when it appeared that there is no option to uncheck the installation of virus checkers and toolbars.

Have you tried "Import from Digital Media" in Capture and then render to MPEG-2 in Share?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi

I think the problem is the frame size of 352 x 266 cannot be set as project properties.

The size is very small and upscaling to 720 x 480 required for DVD would reduce the quality, I would think so much as to be unwatchable.

Ok

You could try setting the project properties to use DV AVI, Microsoft Video 1 would allow User Defined frame sizes to 325 x 266

Then try Share Mpeg2 options, not sure if your video is 4:3 or 16:9?

Otherwise try converting the files using Format Factory a free video converter.
