As you are intending to burn a DVD then you have to create a Mpeg2 video file.

Can you confirm that if you view the Project Properties (Alt+Enter) show similar to these,

Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

After completing the project you should convert / render the project to a single video file, which has to be Mpeg2 as below
Share – Mpeg2
You will have to create your own profile using the Add + option to set these details.
The data rate of 8000kbps is suitable for video up to 70 minutes

How long is your project?

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

If that renders without problems then use the new video (mpeg2) to burn a disc.
Hi Trevor

Yes DVD. My video is 19 min and change. And I had changed it to video encoder type 1 from the 2 which is the default, I assume. I don't see the Add + option anywhere. The white text throughout VS is at best 25 -50% white. It's very hard to see at times, but, I'm sure that Add + isn't on the page.

Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

This is the properties now in the share window for mpg-2

The Profile reads as "MPEG-2 (720 x 480, 4.3 60i, 8Mbps)" There is also another 4.3 profile in the drop down that has 30i instead of 60i.
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Well okay then. I have done that. I have selected where I want it to be saved to and I clicked the "start" button. It gets to 40% rendered and kicks out. No message as to why, no message about anything.

Hi
You should look at the project at 40% 9 ( about 7min 35sec) to see what you have placed on the timeline or any filters / effects added that may be causing this?

Simply move the timeline cursor near the 7 min 35 sec (40% of your 19 minute project) point of the timeline. What is going on in that area: transitions, effects?

It's a short clip that I had reversed, to lead into the next clip, to fill a continuity gap I had.

Can you render that clip by itself? Can you create a short project using only the clips and effects from that neigbourhood and render it?

Nice one Canuck,
yep I have seem that error when using reverse video (long time ago now) and maybe applying another edit.
As you say render that to a new video file then replacing the clip should do the trick

No I cant seem to get it to do that yet anyway.

I did remove it from the the timeline then tried to render the remaining clips again, but, it still just quits and there's never any message as to why. I'll start from the time it stops at, to see if there are anymore quirks in there although I've done that since the first one. Yesterdays storm interfered with my getting at this in a timely matter, that's why my replying takes/took so long.

UPDATE Saturday Apr 6.
I found 3 more reversed clips so have removed them too. Now I have to find pieces of unused clips to try to make for a smooth, as I can get anyway, transition in place of the deleted ones. so that's where I'm at now.

To Everyone involved

I finally got all the reversed clips replaced with a few terrible ones and one I didn't replace. It rendered with no a problems at all. Unfortunately when I viewed the end product I decided to remove the replacement clips. Bless the person who came up with "Ripple Editing". I had used reversed clips in my older versions of VS and they always worked, so, a bit perplexed why they caused a problem now.

Anyway, thank you very much to all of you, for sticking with me. I certainly do appreciate it.
Sincerely
Carroll

Another question.

As I had mentioned I had rendered the video successfully. I went to upload it to dropbox so a friend of mine could watch it to see his father who passed away 3 yrs ago. I never checked the stats on the finished product until I went to upload it. I clicked upload and it said 11 hrs till UL is completed.

Video, rendered as an mpg-2, is 18:47 long and slightly over 1G. Does that sound right?

That 18:47 mpg video should give an approximate 1.3 GB file. So that sounds about right
The time required for the upload depends entirely on the upload speed you have. Your system specs put you at the bottom of any requirements.
