Hi all,
Enthusiast - not a pro. I'm a long time CorelDraw user and decided based on pre-reading to plunge into PSPX8 and ASP2. I came from Aperture, which I thought was OK but a bit messy, via Lightroom which was OK but I did not like the editing interface or the ongoing costs.
My confusion is related to the dichotomy of asset management tools between PSP and ASP. ASP has keywords but seems to be missing facial recognition and geo-tagging. If this is correct, then can anybody share a system that works for them? I'm really hoping you don't go out and tell me to spend more money (but if that is what works then please explain).
Many thanks in advance
Mike

Re: Please help a very confused new user with workflow quest
I'd like to add to my initial question with a few specifics:
-Is there a way to rename RAW files when downloading off a card or from another folder?
-What is the difference between Open/Download/import? I would have thought that download was what I would need to bring files in off a card (or from another location as a copy). In the process I want to rename them with Date/time/Camera name. There are lots of renaming variables in the user guide but I can't find where they are set up and accessed.
-ASP is supposed to write out a new type of XMP file. I tried making a test catalog and imported 4 photos into it. I added a keyword on import (they already had some keywords with their Lightroom XMP). When I look in the folder from which I imported them (and I assume the sidecar file would have been written, the XMPs have the same date as they had before (untouched). Where does it store the new keyword I gave it on import?
Hope someone can help

Re: Please help a very confused new user with workflow quest
Thanks for the reply H. I have a couple of follow ups:
I am running 64bit SP2. Geotagging is only 32bit. I figure I can import my images to the library in 64 & then close it. Open 32 aand geo-tag. Correct? More generally, is there any blow back form flipping between the 32 & 64 bit versions?
The Survival guide is a few years out of date. Is it still an essential purchase?
Edit: Installed ASP2.4 32bit to use the AsGPS plugin. Installed the plugin. It does not appear in the plugin tab. Is there a different way to access it or is there an incompatibility with 2.4?
Cheers

Re: Please help a very confused new user with workflow quest
asGPS 64bit:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 43#p314943
please try - this should work with the newest 64 bit version.
Don't know why this is not on the ASP plugin page.
Yes - you can switch between 32 and 64 - maybe some things don't work (are not shown) if not all plugins are the same.
I work with the newest 64 bit version (2.4.0.119 - has a better GUI) but process the files with 2.1.2.10 (2.4.0.119 freezes often on batch output, sometimes 1.0.1.10 /has noise ninja and other plugins that don't work with the new versions) and sometimes with Bibble 5 Pro 5.2.3 (somtimes better colours - and some features that are still not in ASP - like watched folders ...)
In my opinion, the ASP Survival guide still is a good choice.

Re: Please help a very confused new user with workflow quest
I can confirm that the asGPS 64bit works on the images in my test set with ASP 2.4.0.199
Still learning after all these years!
