Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
you should be able to do exactly the same wit a video of the train using a coloured background and the Chroma Key function in Videostudio

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
Hi Mike
There is a Chroma Key option below the library.
Place Image in top track
Place the Train on the overlay track, Fit to screen
Double click the clip to open the Options panel, choose the Attributes tab
Choose Mask & Chroma Key
Apply Overlay
Use Colour picker to select background,
Similarity to 20% ish, try different levels.

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
Just one further point
when you put your image in the top track double click it to open the options panel - then open the "Attributes" tab and click to tick the box against "Distort clip"
do not distort but hover your mouse cursor over the preview window and it will become a 4 way arrow - left click and push up so that much of the sky in the image is up off the screen and you can see the buildings without distortion

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
Hi
Well I have just tried the FX Chroma Filter and I cannot get it to work, must be doing some thing wrong?
The Mask and Chroma Key should work well

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
That result is very much expected as there isn't any unique color in your wall.
If you want much better results you better use a colored backdrop there.

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
Yes you are getting there but those problems are due to the background colour not being clearly defined giving you problems with the similarity setting
if you had a plain clear coloured background - that is any colour which is not present in the trains - all those problems would disappear.

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
My green screen is a very bright green (proper green screen) I shall try and make a short test with that later and let you see it.
None of the trains have a bright green shade in them so hope will be ok.
Right, I am in trouble now so must go hahahah

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
A well defined monochrome should stop the "bleed through" on the carriages and trucks. Plus try to keep the camera position solid - I presume you are using a tripod.
I wonder if orange would be better, I cannot see any orange on the train setup. Chroma key does rely on something it can lock on to and this can be very difficult at times, even the TV companies get it wrong sometimes. Experiment and it should become good.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: adding a photo backdrop to videos
You mean make the whole thing black & white? monochrome? Orange might work!

Not exactly, monochrome defines a single colour. If you already have a green screen, you could try it and select different colour rolling stock and engine.MikesMovies wrote:You mean make the whole thing black & white? monochrome? Orange might work!
