VS8 SE Encountered a Problem

Post by paulwho »

When I try to capture using Ulead Video Studio 8 SE there's a long pause and then up pops a box saying :- "Ulead Video Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then you press (OK) and it closes. Error signature :- AppName : vstudio.exe : AppVer : 8.0.0.0 : offset : 66812040 . I sent the error to Microsoft. It sounds like it may be having some conflict with my capture card :- WinFast TV2000 XP Expert. Sometimes you can hear the audio of the TV channel but then the program closes but the audio continues untill you open WinFast PVR capture card programe and then close. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Video Studio 8 and also applied all the patches that is in this site for video studio 8 SE.
My biggest worry is that I'm waiting on a Ulead Video Studio 9 Upgrade to come in the mail. Do you think this will solve my problem with capturing when installed ?
I'm running XP home, CMD Processor, 1gb RAM, 40gb with OS, 2 x 80gb video storage.
I use PAL, MPEG-2, Upper Field First, 6000 kbps, 720 x 576, 25,000 fps. Audio MPEG-1, Audio Layer-11, Bitrate:224 kbps.
I hope you can shed some light on this.
PS > I can capture OK using my WinFast TV2000 XP Expert Capture card.
but using this program I can't select "Upper Field First"
Thanks Paul...

I don't think you have to worry about your capture card not giving you the option to set 'upper field first'. AFAIK, that is the default for analog capture as opposed to DV capture, which is "lower field first"
If you do not see any artifacts in motion sequences you can safely assume the field settings to be right.
Now, that of course does not solve your problem with VS. I daubt that the upgrade to VS9 is going to fix that. We have had many posts about similar problems with different set ups. IMHO, your problem is system specific.
Where do your Temp files, program and swap file reside in the scheme of things?

VS8 SE Encountered a Problem

Post by paulwho »

Hi there guys !
Sorry but I might have found the answer. Will test this theory out after work today. See msg from Trever below >>>>>

Oh George I am one Happy Bunny. That Works

I have uninstalled Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 . During which my pc recognized that VS 9 was installed and may not work correctly after uninstalling.

I thought I may have had to re-install VS 9, but things seem ok.

I can now access the capture screen without VS 9 closing down.
And Tools / Change Capture plug-in

I did a bit of surfing Microsoft and found this download page, Interestingly Version 3.1 has been withdrawn, see below.

Downloading the Windows Installer 3...

IMPORTANT NOTE: VERSION 3.1 has been withdrawn by Microsoft for unknown reasons. Version 3.0 is still available. To download version 3.0 (KB884016) click here.I have downloaded Version 3.0 but not installed as yet.

Once Again George Thanks

Yes ! I've solved my problem > I did uninstall microsoft windows installer 3.1 but this didn't have any affect on my crashing problem.
The fix was to go into my WinFast TV2000 program and change the settings from TV to S-Video then exit. Open Video Studio 8 and then I could do it all. Looks like the 2 programes didn't like fighting for the same stuff. I've now reinstalled windows installer 3.1 and all is just fine.
