VS X8 crashes using "Share"

Post by Murray007 »

I'm using VS X8 Ultimate, 18.6.0.6 . When I load a project done last October, everything looks good in the video, title and music tracks. I can watch the video in the preview window. Then I click on the Share tab, choose "disc" and select either DVD or AVCHD. The Loading Project screen comes on, the project begins to load and then stops with the Windows error "VideoStudio has stopped working etc" with the following details:

Problem Event Name: BEX64
Application Name: vstudio.exe
Application Version: 18.4.0.27
Application Timestamp: 5654094d

I have successfully made both DVD and AVCHD videos since installing the updates/patches for Windows 7.

Any ideas?

A couple of ideas. If you used earlier version of VS, like X7 or X6, perhaps is the Auto Music that changed. Another idea before we get deeper into the details, try sharing to, say, mp4 file to see if the problem is the disc share. Another idea, try doing a share of a small project started from scratch just to see how bad is the situation.

Instead of leading the project into the burning module, try instead -- while still in the Editing module -- to convert the project to whatever file format is consistent with what you are wanting to produce. So to produce a DVD-compatible file, choose Share > MPEG-2 and accept the preset properties if your project is less than an hour long. If wanting to burn am AVCHD hybrid disc, then go to Share > AVCHD (in the file creation part of Share).

Then when you have either new file, create a new project. Don't bother about giving it a name: the objective is just to clear the timeline. Then select Share > DVD or Share > AVCHD (in the disc creation part of Share). The burning module should open with an empty timeline. If there is anything there, delete it, then go to Add Media in the top left and navigate to where you have the new file(s) stored and add it to the burning timeline. Does this now work to produce a disc?

You could also try burning an ISO file instead of an actual disc on the final page of the burning module. If this works, you can then burn the ISO to disc either using VS or a third party program like Nero or the freeware ImgBurn.

All projects are from X8.
I tried Al's idea and was able to begin rendering (I stopped it after several %) under Computer in both mpeg-4 and AVC/H.264, and under Device I could render with HDV. So it appears it may be the "disc" part of Share that is the problem.
From Ken, it's awkward but it does work. I got the project as far along as the burn and then stopped so this is a work around.

Thanks to both of you. Now any idea how to fix the disc Share?

Hi Murry

Although you may think this is a workround it’s the process we all use, creating the video file first then use in the burner module overcomes the need to convert there. (no convert Title)
The overall process takes the same time, these are some notes from X9 / X10 a while ago
http://lata.me.uk/video_studio/guides/q ... e_mpeg.htm

For DVD
Open the burner module, nothing in the timeline Add Media Add video
Create your menu
On the last page choose to create Disc Image Iso
This will create an ISO file on your hard drive, using VLC Media Player play the iso to test quality.

Now use the Tools – Burn from disc image option to burn ISO to disc

Windows also has a burner, right click the iso for options, If that fails to burn the disc then it may be your burner at fault
