VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
This is a new one on me, when saving, the correct file is shown, but the file is being saved as a VSX8 .vsp and not VSX9 .vsp
Any ideas on why this is happening

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Unless there is something wrong with the screen or my eyes it says that it is saving as X9 but why do you say it is saved as X8 - - how do you know the .vsp file is saved as X8 - I might find that useful

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Hi Brian,
First of all the icon is the VSX8 icon which appears on the desktop after saving, and when opened it tries to open in VSX8, then VSX8 crashes, if I open VSX9 then select "Open Project" the .vsp file does not show in "My Projects" however if I right click on the .vsp file it gives the option to open in VSX8 or VSX9 and then will open in VSX9

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Have you checked the windows settings for "default programmes" is that showing X9 as the default programme for .vsp files is X9 the first choice - because it sounds to me as though you are creating X9 vsp's (crashes X8 but opens in X9) but your file associations are incorrect and windows tries to use X8

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
In default programs, the file association for .vsp files is Corel Video Studio, which to me is correct, if I specify a particular version (VSX9) then how would previous versions open their .vsp files, say if I had VSX7 open at the time
Further checking reveals that the only situation where this issue occurs is if a save a VSX9 .vsp file to the desktop, that's when it saves it as a VSX8 file.
I often save .vsp files to the desktop, much faster to open the project that way, but why it has suddenly started saving as a VSX8 project is a mystery

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Does it matter if previous projects open in X9 - don't you want to use the latest version when editing.
I only have the option for X8 or X9 (see below) - how would that work with my earlier vsp files - my X7 projects just open in X9

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Hi
For each version we install there is a “vstudio.exe” file.
The project file VSP when double clicked targets one of these files to open and run the program. It should target the last program installed.
When we view Open With all we are shown is Corel Video Studio with no version number, the actual “program version” being set in the registry.
1 / Close all programs, then double click any VSP, one of your Video Studios will run, same for any VSP selected. It should always be the same program as set in the registry. For me its X9 that runs. Robert what program runs for you?
Whether the project launches to show the clips depends on the VSP saved version.
2 / If we have lets say X7 running with a project open on the timeline.
We double click a X9 vsp file, the project will appear to launch clearing the timeline but no clips will show, the project does not launch as it is saved for X9
3 / If we have X9 running then double clicking any VSP should load to the timelines, we will get warnings if those VSP contains edits not supported by X9, Smart Sound etc.
4 / when I save a VSP to any location on my pc the icon displays as the X9 version.
5 / I doubt we can change the files association via Windows Explorer, that only targets vstudio.exe, the registry setting chooses the version.
We have to either uninstall all programs and re-install or Edit the registry.
Otherwise do not run the program by double clicking a VSP file, open the program first, then File – open Project
Hi Brian
I did not see your reply, it appears using Windows 7 only gives one option and that is Corel VideoStudio, I do not get two options
I can browse to choose say X7 vstudio.exe but that then views the registry for the version to run, for me x9 runs

That's not what I am getting, if I save a VSX9 .vsp to the desktop the VSX8 icon displays

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Hi Robert
Yes that is correct
when I save a VSP from X7 or X8 it also uses the X9 icon.
If you close video studio and double click any VSP file which program opens?

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
With VSX9 closed, double clicking on the VSP file (created in VSX9) opens VSX8 then immediately crashes, no errors, just disappears
If I open VSX9 first, then double click on the desktop VSP file, then it does open correctly
Checking on what is showing in \MyDocuments\CorelVideoStudioPro\My Projects, all .vsp files are showing the VSX8 icon, so I have changed the "Opens with" to VSX9, now the desktop icon shows the VSX9 icon. But why has this happened, it's never been an issue before

Re: VSX9 being Saved as VSX8
Hi
What was the last program you installed?
if it was X8 then that may take preference to VSP's
In the past this has been an on-going problem for some users
so we always advise to run the program first then open the project.
I did try changing my options to open / run X8 or X7 but whatever I did X9 always started
