Syncing lyrics using titles

Post by pblais »

Hello
My name is Pierre. I am not new to Videostudio but new to the forum. I am running VideoStudio X9 Ultimate 64 bit. Here is my problem. I am trying to put together a slide show with music. I want the lyrics to the music to scroll across the screen as the slide show is playing. I am using "titles" to do this at this time. Maybe there is a better way to do it. I have the song lyrics as a text file. I will drag a title clip down onto the title track and copy/paste one line of the lyrics into it. I am using the second one from the left in the top row of titles. Sometimes the words in the text go past to fast so I paste half the line in to one title and the other half into another title. That works fine. By the way, is there any way to slow down how fast the letters scroll onto the screen for that title. If there was, I wouldn't have to split it in half. So I digress. My real issue is.. I have a problem putting up the next line of text. I almost have to slide it on top of the previous one but when I do that, I get a transition effect that I don't want. If I shorten the previous one so I don't get that transition effect, then the previous one is displayed to fast for the actual audio.

Any ideas...

Thank you all in advance

Pierre

Hi Pierre

And welcome to the forums

To slow down the scrolling text you have to increase the duration / length of the text clip.
Select the clip on the timeline and drag the yellow trim handle, or set the digital clock (edit Tab)

There are two title tracks available, Settings -- Track Manager to set tracks.

You can also drag the “title clip” to the Overlay track, effectively giving you another title track.

Post Updated
I have viewed the clip you are using, the animation allows the text to fully show appear by 50%, half way across the clip then the text is solid for the remaining half.
Is this what you want?

You can adjust this timing by selecting the Attributes tab, then select the text on screen, the blue bar shows the Pause Duration, drag that bar right and the text will take longer to show.

If that is more suitable, you can copy and paste these attributes to other clips

Some info on that blue bar

Let me see if I can explain this graphically with words
First two lines of the song
line 1 Couple words, more words to sing
line 2 One more long line with many words to sing

I have to break up the text into multiple title clips because each line is too long to fit in one title and gets clipped if I try to use it as it (unless you know of a better way to use long text in titles)

so what I did was break the text for line 1 into two title clips Clip 1<Couple words> and Clip 2 <more words to sing> the comma in the song actually helped fit things in there
broke the text of line 2 as follows Clip 3<One more long line> and Clip 4<with many words to sing>

Title track Clip 1 Clip 2
<Couple words><more words to sing> these two clips are right up against each other and everything plays fine
Audio track Couple words, more words to sing

now we get to the next line in the song.. keep in mind that this audio and title track is the same just a continuation of what I just showed
Title track Clip 3 Clip 4
<One more long line><with many words to sing>
Audio track One more long line with many words to sing

Clip 3 is right up against Clip 2 and that all fits fine.. The problem is this. There is no punctuation and the word line is extended in the audio so it would sound like "One more long liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine". So I set the length of Clip 3 to finish just as the long word line is done singing. But there is some lag time at the end so Clip 4 starts too late. Like I said in my original post. For it to fit right, I need to overlap Clip 4 a little over Clip 3. But, when I do that I get a transition effect that I don't want.

I tried that but gives me the jump from one title track to the other that I also don't want

Have I done a better job of explaining my problem?

By the way thank you for the help

Hi

Clearly we can only fit a certain number of characters across our screen, that depends on the Font size and the frame size.

What are your project properties frame size.
Set the project properties to use HD 1920 x 1080, set the font size to say 50 Ariel.

You are using a default template that is using Fade in / Character that limits the number of characters, it is also reducing the fade in to 50%.

Change the animation to use fly right to left and a ticker tape type animation will be used, this should allow for more text.
However the speed of the text depends on the length of text box which is limited to the words being sung.

I’ll create a VSP to test the different options.
Give me a little time

Hi Pierre

Sorry for the delay
This project should open with X9, there are of course other animation options available.
Maybe no animation would allow a longer time to view the text.

how many characters do you have in the text box and how long does it take to sing the words?
