VSSXAP.exe faulting in ntdll.dll

Post by RalphShnelvar »

I have just installed the trial version of VideoStudio X9.

In MS's event log I'm seeing:

Faulting application name: VSSCap.exe, version: 19.1.0.12, time stamp: 0x56c2aa72
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.19110, time stamp: 0x568429e5
Exception code: 0xc0000374
Fault offset: 0x00000000000bffc2
Faulting process id: 0xf48
Faulting application start time: 0x01d179667862f3ef
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\VSSCap.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
Report Id: b736fbcb-e559-11e5-aa0e-005056c00008

Before I shell out for the upgrade (I have X5 installed but it requires some MS update remove in order to work) I'd like to know if I can get screen capture working.

I guess I should have been more clear.

This is crashing in a Corel-provided app to do screen capture.

Screen Capture works fine in VSX9, it's possible that for the trial version it is disabled as are many other features with the trial

I purchased the full version.

At least the following three things are broken:

(1) Uninstall needs administrator privileges to c:\config.msi\ .

(2) Corel tech support emailed me to say, "Install should be done by doing a download first and then run the install with admin privileges"; if you don't do that then the install brakes with an incredibly useful error popup that says "We encountered a problem while installing. Please contact technical support."

(3) Screen capture breaks badly.

Hi Ralph

When I run the Web Installer (VideoStudioX9_Installer.exe) a User account Control panel shows, this has always been the case when running this file.
Yes to that and the Installer shows as a black screen.
I can choose to download the trial or input my serial number

Next and I accept the Licence Agreement
Next for User Experience………….
Next finally opens the installer options
If I choose to Download and Install the process starts to verify the files in turn.
If already downloaded will start to Install, otherwise it will download the selected files, then install

We can also manually install the programs one at a time.
Locate the download files, access the 64bit or 32 bit folder
Open the Ultimate or Pro folder to locate the Setup.exe
That will install the main program, you will need to input the serial number.

Manually install the Standard Content to complete installation (setup_CHD.exe)
Followed by the Bonus Features, if you have purchased the Ultimate package. (setup_Bonus.exe)

The only time I has serious problems was after terminating the installation rather than allowing the install to complete.

Uninstalling has not been a problem via Programs and Features, with no special privileges required, although if that is the case should not affect uninstall, and I would suspect a setting on your pc.

Screen Capture, again I have not had a fail for the few times I have used that?

Error messages I must could be more informative, that’s assuming the program can identify the problem.

Ralph
Can you confirm that you have uninstalled the Trial and installed the purchase version, please provide the version number showing in “Help- About”

You do not say that the actual program is a problem, just the Screen Capture ????

I have uninstalled

Corel Video Studio 19.1.0.14 (64bit Pro)

Uninstalling has not been a problem via Programs and Features, with no special privileges required, although if that is the case should not affect uninstall, and I would suspect a setting on your pc.
In order to cleanly uninstall the trial version I needed to change the access privileges to c:\config.msi

You do not say that the actual program is a problem, just the Screen Capture ????
Just screen capture

I got the following message from Corel technical support:
Thank you for contacting Corel Technical Support.

I rechecked the report you sent, and seen that your system has 4 monitors. In the previous versions of Videostudio, more than 2 monitors causes conflict or issues and this could also be the cause of the issue you are having in screen capture.

Can you try removing the extra 2 monitors so we can test it? Let me know how it goes.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.

Regards,
So I removed two monitors and screen capture now works.

Technical support is now escalating my issue.
