Garbled DDS image

Post by Eurostar27 »

Not sure why but PSP X6 32bit and 64bit versions open up a DDS image garbled? An example is a 512x512 image, part of which is missing and repeated 4 times vertically? The mip maps are NOT loaded, so it cant be this. I have tried earlier versions of the dds.8bi and dds64.8bi plugin files but the problem is the same. Other people do not have this image file corruption, so what is the problem? Any advice PLEASE

I can't say what the problem is, but have you tried opening the image file with another program (like the free DDS Viewer) to see if it might be an issue with the images rather than a plugin issue? Also, were you ever able to open those files with X6? I'm wondering if perhaps you updated your OS to WIN 10 from an earlier OS version and if the problem could be that the plugin doesn't support WIN 10. Just a few thoughts.

I do have a DDS viewer and the image shows correctly, as does the Win10 file explorer (thumbnails). Just to say that PSPX6 WAS showing the DDS file correctly under Win10, before a Win10 reset. I have tried re-installing X6, but same problem. Maybe, after the Win10 reset, some system files went missing? This is so annoying, since I did do a lot of texture file creations and alterations, but now I cant do anything with DDS files. Maybe I could contact Corel technical support? I have also put this same subject on Nvidia's forum.

I have never heard of DDS files, they don't appear in File>Preferences>File Format Associations.

Anything in here of any use?

It's a bit old, but maybe of help.

DDS files are image files with extra data. They were created by Nvidia as compressed texture file used in many games and simulators. You need a pluggin file dds.8bi (32bit) or dds64.8bi (64bit) for Corel PSP to open and save DDS files.
