Help Please: Video Editor will not open

Post by jkirk01 »

The Video Editor gets to initializing the audio filters and then I get "this program has generated errors and must be closed dialog" This happened last night at home, so I will have to get the particulars on this post tonight. But in the mean time does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I tried updating audio/video drivers, reinstalling the app, etc. No change in behavior. Thanks

Jeff

PS: Sorry this is MSP7 with SP3

Hi

In Documents & Settings:
Your Name/Application Data/Ulead Systems/Ulead Media Studio Pro
Administrator/Application Data/Ulead Systems/Ulead Media Studio Pro

Delete library.gal, however you may need to delete the whole MSP folder & reinstall MSPro + patch 7.3.

Regards

It could also be that you have an errant DirectX audio filter installed by some other software or some tools that came with your audio card drivers (often Sony's legacy Sonic Foundry products or bundled tools that come with Soundblaster audio cards).

If this is the case then things get a bit more complex. Most of the solutions for this case were covered in this thread;

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... irectx+msp

While it may seem that disabling DirectX audio filters is a high cost for being able to boot up it really isn't. If you check the install notes for MSPro SP2 or SP3 you'll see that you can enable the use of Cubase VST audio plugins.

These are quite often open source (read: free) and just as often very high in quality. Googling for "VST free plugin" should get you started in the right direction.

Just remember that there are versions for Windows and the Mac (use Windows, of course) and that some VST's are filters while others are instruments or even games (!!).

Stick with the filters :)

Okay, I've had no problems with my Audigy drivers. The only thing I installed on this machine between the time it was working and now is BattleField2. So, I will uninstall and we shall see. I mention it soley for reference and Terry's comment on games loading DX filters.

Not just games; audio tools, jukeboxes etc. can also add little "suprises".

Here's the skinny. I uninstalled Battlefield, no effect. I uninstalled MSP and deleted the leftovers in Program Files. Then I reinstalled from MSP from CD. I then ran the MSP Video Editor software, no problems. Then I applied SP3. Poof the problem reappeared. Any new ideas? Thanks...

Did you delete these folders (You only said "deleted the leftovers in Program Files")
In Documents & Settings:
Your Name/Application Data/Ulead Systems/Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.0
Administrator/Application Data/Ulead Systems/Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.0

Delete library.gal, however you may need to delete the whole MSP folder & reinstall MSPro + patch 7.3.
Have you done as Terry said re: disabling audio in msp.ini?

I just had exactly the same problem. Hung on opening at
Initializing audio filters.

Only way I managed to get going again was to do a complete
shut down restart of the computer. It worked OK after the re-boot.

To John,

Yes, I have completed all of the things mentioned in your message. However, I don't have a [DXAudMgr] entry in the msp.ini file. Anyone running DX 9.0c and MSP7SP3? thanks...

Yup, me on several systems so that's not an instant answer.

No problem on my sig system or an XP1800 with Win2K

Time for some specs please

Also, add into msp.ini (There will probably be more than 1 so use Windows search, show hidden files)

[DXAudMgr]
DisableDXAudio=0

Specs: Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz, 2 GB 400Mhz Dual Channel RAM, Asus MB 800 Mhz FSB, Nvidia FX5900 AGP, (2) 250 GB SATA, Sony DVD+-RW, HP DVD+-RW, WinXP Pro SP2 (all fixes to date). All Drivers video and audio are up to date.

Without breaking NDA, is v8 close to release? I might just wait and upgrade.

Sorry, but releasing the schedule would violate the NDA.

:D I know, I thought I'd try to see if I could get an "it's close" or not.
