Just downloaded and installed DVD WS2 trial. When program starts, I get the error message "mpeg vio driver error" referring to the DVDWS.ini file. Closing the message allows me to run the program, but I can't import the mpeg files (m2v) that were created with Matrox RT-X100. Avi files work ok. I used Sonic DVDit 2.5 before and would prefer DVDWS in future, if I could get it to work... What is the problem? How can I solve it? I' m using Windows 2000 Pro.
Thanks for help.
Vio driver error
Did it perhaps say "Load Mpeg Vio Driver Error" instead?
That was usually a conflict with Adobe Premiere 6 which also used the Main Concept encoder. Do you have that installed on your machine as well?
There was a patch for it.
ftp://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Updates/Share/PatchForMpeg.exe
Don't know whether it will work or not because the trial versions supposedly cannot be patched.

Yes, PHD, the error is "Load Mpeg Vio driver error". I also have Premiere 6.5, and found the patch which I downloaded and installed. But this did not help. I tried to delete everything about Ulead, including the registry entries, and to reinstall. Same problem. Then I downloaded and installed on another (spare) PC with Win XP and everything works perfectly there. I checked the DVDWS.ini file on both machines: they are just the same (as I expected).
I did some google search and found a lot of similar vio driver problems as well with Movie Factory as with DVDWS, but no solution, except trying to install the patch.
So I know the program is working fine, but on the Win 2000 PC there must be a conflict and I don't dare to buy the program if I'm not sure the problem can be solved.
Thanks in advance for further help.

Someone with a lot more knowledge than me will probably have to answer this, but that vio driver patch I believe is a file rather than a modification to the [VIO Driver] section of the INI. because over the years for that type of change, they told us what line to add or modify.
It probably is that patch does not work with the trial version. I had Premiere on one of my machines with Ulead and did get that error. That patch fixed it. However, I never ran Win2K on any of my machines.
For the price, its not worth taking the chance to get the full version of DVD Workshop if it will be a problem on your machine.
If no one else can help you resolve the conflict, try this program. It has been recommended to me but I am happy with Ulead products and couldn't see buying another authoring program to do the same thing I can now. http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/ Free trial available.

First, remember to upgrade your Windows 2000 to SP4 from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com , this is because DVDWS supports Windows 2000 SP4 or later.
Then remove DVDWS and then use Windows Explorer to open System Drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD WorkShop and then delete the 2.0 folder.
Also delete the System Drive:\Program Files\Ulead System\Ulead DVD WorkShop 2.0 folder.
Then type regedit in the Start->Run command of Windows Task Bar to open Registry Editor, and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD WorkShop and delete the 2.0 folder, then close Registry Editor.
At this time, you can install DVD WorkShop again to see if it will install OK.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, Phd and Htchien. Unfortunately it does not help. I already tried complete desinstall, including all files and folders (I also desinstalled Cool 3d to make sure) and all Ulead registry entries. On the other PC with Win XP, Premiere 6.5 is also installed and it works perfectly WITHOUT installing any patch.
My Win 2000 system is upgraded with SP4. I received however a tip from a collegue who also used this PC for video editing some months ago. He had already downloaded DVDWS trial for personal testing, but never had the time to use it. So he desinstalled the trial version (maybe release 1?).
Is it possible that old registry entries avoid the correct install of DVDWS 2 trial? I guess however that if this was the case, I should receive a warning message like "trial period is over", which is not the case?
I'm very unhappy with this story, because the few tests I could do with the XP PC make me enthusiast about the product. But it HAS to work on the Win 2000 PC.
Are those posts also red by Ulead support ???
Thanks again to Phd and Htchien.

Yes, it's possible to be effected by the previous install of DVDWS Trial.
I think if you can, please reformat your PC hard disk and install the Windows again.
If you cannot, then you can use it on another PC, or on the same PC with another Windows platform like Winodws XP, if your hard disk space is enough.
Hope this helps.
