Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
"BlueRay is almost dead. My local Staples/BestBuy stores no longer even carry blank BD discs. Like Ken, I "burn" all my video to USB sticks and play them direct on my TV or through my streaming Media Player."
My own cent:
Storing on usb stick for long term storage seems not very practical, to sort them out at a physical location. Long term reliability of cheapo usb stick is also difficult to figure out ( i have seen problems on some and file lost. Same reason it is strongly suggested not to keep original of camcorder SD card recorded video on the card themselves). These seems more usefull for a quick test on a bluray player if no streaming is possible directly from the computer (to avoid burning a BD disk, if video is not HD 60P). Some TV could not read them directly (but many could read a single file on an usb stick if no avchd menu is needed), but many bluray player probably could.

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Thanks guy's for your comments, all taken on board. At the present time my TV has limited connectability and not Wi-Fi capable to share files from my computer. I have friends that share DVD's so will continue along that path in SD for the time being. I'm not too sure at 76 yrs if my eye's would notice the difference between HD and SD on my TV anyway!!
Thanks again, I have this post printed and stored for future when circumstances change and I make the leap to HD.

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
I spoke to Corel and they will send me the plugin for Bluray once it is released.
When sending videos abroad etc ( grans and the like ) i think theres still a need for me at least for Bluray.
No-one any idea when plugin will be released?

The High-Def/Blu-ray Disc Plug-In for VideoStudio has always been available since the release of X9

Well that statement is not true, I would think the advisor needs more training........garjobo wrote:Intresting re always been available..i can only say what Corel spokesman emailed me...

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Unfortunatly, you should never take as an absolute truth what support people could tell. I was told by corel support that X8 won't work at all with windows xp (this is the official supported position), but i installed it anyway under xp home edition sp3 and it is working as well as previous versionIndeed, VideoStudio X9 has Bluray Features however, Bluray Plugin is not yet available this time. Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Am I the only one who thinks it's a little unfair to have to buy the Blu-ray burning feature separately AGAIN with each update? In other media software I've owned (Cakewalk for example) you might buy and add-on encoder for MP3 or somesuch, but then you own it, and can use it with future upgrades. It's kind of unpleasant losing features when I upgrade!

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Well Corel could have included the blu-ray module in X9 and charge an extra $10 for the programme as they always did for previous versions - most of the cost is for the licence required to include blu-ray - - but why should people like me and all the previous posters have to pay for a blu-ray licence for something we never use
Surely much better to reduce the price of the programme and only people who really want blu-ray pay for it

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
yep, but that's not my point. My point is that we have to buy it AGAIN with subsequent upgrades. Surely whatever licensing is owed was paid the first time. In other words, if I bought a license to encode blu-ray, then why would I need to buy another? Why not let us enter a license key to activate the feature, and migrate that key to new releases?

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Although I agree with everything else you say -- and we have said this repeatedly to Corel -- I think you will find from Corel's point of view (and probably also from a legal point of view) your statement above is not correct. Whatever licensing is owed is owed on a specific product, and that product is -- separately -- a product called VS X8 and another distinct product called VS X9. Corel has to pay the Blu-Ray authorities a licence fee for each product/package sold, not for a generic product called "Video Studio" which they would pay once only for. So from Corel's point of view they are only passing on that fee for each product to those who actually want the BD burner.Kevideo wrote:Surely whatever licensing is owed was paid the first time.

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
I had thought Corel were offering the BD addon free for upgrades from X8 having previously purchased the X8 add-on.?Kevideo wrote:Am I the only one who thinks it's a little unfair to have to buy the Blu-ray burning feature separately AGAIN with each update? Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Hi just upgraded from x5 to x9
i see no blu Ray option to burn a BD.
Please direct me to the BD plug in. I cannot find on your web site.
Frustrating that I need to pay again but that the software business.
Also my x9 crashes when I go to make a dvd. Install the sp1 and even reinstalled the entire software.

Re: VS 9 - burning bluray
Just had to revisit this as I needed to burn a dozen Blyrays for my Son's HS Aquatic banquet.
Found the easy way is to simply render to file and then opened up VSX8 that DOES have the Bluray option and use the burning module there.
I may purchase the drivers for X9 but it seems less and less now that I burn to a disk.
All my videos I keep on my Windows Home Sever and stream them to the TV via DLNA using Mezzmo.
