Stop registry error box at PSP v6.0 startup on Windows 10

Post by vankjeff »

I've had this PSP 6.0 for over a decade. It works great on my XPs and it even works great on this new Windows 10. I've got it set to open JPGs and GIFs automatically with PSP by setting that in Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set File Associations and I picked PSP for GIF. JPEG, JPG, PNG, RAW, RAWR, WMF and any others.
To do this, hilite each of those individually and hit [CHANGE PROGRAM] then hit MORE APPS at the bottom. Hit LOOK FOR ANOTHER APP ON THIS PC at the bottom.
The PSP folder is in Program Files (x86) and choose psp.exe which is in there.
Anyhow, my problem is that, even though it pops open and displays any JPG or GIF that I double click, if I just try to Open PSP first, it displays these two boxes telling me that some registry error needs to be fixed but it doesn't tell me what is wrong or even give me an Error Code that I could Google.
I just click the first box's OK button and then another of the exact same box pops, so I OK it, and then PSP opens up as usual and works great.
So my obvious workaround has always been to just remember to click on Photos first and not try to open PSP first. Or I can just click both boxes shut with OKing them. But that's BS. There HAS to be a fix that other's know of. And trust me, this isn't just an installation error as I've uninstalled and reinstalled PSP many times and I've even had to Clean Install Windows and then I reinstalled PSP and it still does it.
Anyone can see one of these Error boxes here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... 79f59403ab

BTW, I don't have a clue how to display an image on this site so I just uploaded it to my Facebook account with it set to ONLY ME and then I opened it and clicked GET LINK at the bottom in the hidden OPTIONS that gives me this link that it says that anyone with a Facebook account can see it with.

Many of the users here do not use Facebook and can't look at the images you posted.

When you write a post, go to the bottom of the page and look for the "Upload attachment" tab. Click on the choose file button and select the file, then click Add the file. Once you have done that you have the choice of putting it inline in the message. Images have to be no more than 900 pixels wide by 800 high so it may be necessary to resize an image.
