PSP and Twain for scanner missing

Post by bobtail »

Since going to PSPX8 , when I click on the scan button it can't find the scanner. It found it in X7. Now it comes up with "No Scanner found", even though it is turned on and working vis Epson Scan.Any ideas ?

Have you tried File>Import>From Scanner or Camera?
Works fine here.

You may have a conflict between 32 bit and 64 bit. Some scanners don't/wont work in 64 bit. If you have an older version of PSP in 32 bit try scanning from there, do a save and open the file in x8.

I have the same problem since I installed PSP X8.
I only ever work with 32-bit versions, so it shouldn't be due to 64-bit conflicts.
Scanner worked fine in X7, but now it won't find the scanner either.
Tried removing x8 with the cleanup tool and then find the scanner with X7...no luck.

Have tried File > Import > From Scanner or Camera.

It's a bit like Servicepack 1 for X8...some have trouble, some don't.
Some work with Windows 7, some 8/8.1, some 10.
So the issue is somewhere with a file that came with other software?????

I'm having the same issue in PSP X7, except it was working and now it is not. Does not recognize scanner, "Scanner Not Found". Even though it is clearly there in Control Panel and is available in other graphics packages. I am going to try a complete re-install of X7.

To the best of my knowledge TWAIN has only ever been 32bit and has now been deprecated in favour of WIA (Windows Image Accusation) which sucks.

I been using PSP since it first came out years ago and I miss the old version. I was able to scan at a touch. I have a Windows 10 system computers now and have installed PSP X8 I can't get the scanner button to connect directly to scanner. When I have to scan I can only do so through file-import-from scanner or camera. This is really a task when you have to scan dozens of files. The Twain Acquire and Twain source do not work at all. Why have this feature of is not going to work. Can someone show me how to fix the problem? I read that the new x9 has the same issue and that has stopped me from buying one more upgrade.

Are you using the 32bit or 64 bit version of PSP? I' not sure Twain will work with 64 bit. And even then you should be sure you have the latest drivers installed for whatever scanner you're using.

If it matters, I'm on Windows 8.1, use PSPX7 32 bit (because I need to be able to access lots of 32 bit plugins) and Twain Source and Twain Acquire use the scanner software of my Canon MP280 and MX310 All-In-One printers.

32 or 64 bit versions of PSP don't matter when calling up your scanner- it is a piece of hardware that has a driver that is 32 or 64 bit depending on the OS used, although the specific scanner model may have 32 bit software as most do.
In PSP X6 32 bit I get a list of my Twain Sources showing my Epson scanner and Import from Scanner brings up a small windows of my scanner's software window.
In PSP X6 64 bit I get a blank box for Twain Sources, but selecting Import from Scanner brings up my scanners software window.
This means that even though my scanner software is 32 bit, in PSP X6 64 bit it is running in it's own window- not like a plugin that requires 64 bit compatibility.
So even though in PSP X6 64 bit the Twain boxes are blank (unlike PSP X6 32 bit where all Twain devices are listed), Import from Scanner works.

So whatever version of 64 bit PSP you have, the scanner problems are a Corel code bug.

Don't mistake a scanner program for a twain driver.

I have given up completely trying to scan in PSP9. It always freezes my computer;
So I scan in good old freeware IrfanView, save the result and then edit in PSP.
