"Television Effect" ?

Post by TroyTheTech »

I have tried other video editing applications in the past, and most have a relatively easy to find "TV Simulator" type of effect, where it looks as though something was viewed on an old television or CRT screen, with obvious pixels, deformed slightly, etc.

I cannot seem to find this effect in Videostudio X8.5, but perhaps it is called something else and I keep skipping over it?
Is it something present in X9? If so, I would possibly upgrade just for that, as I like to use it a lot.

If there is some sort of combination of filters and effects available as is, that would produce this effect, please share

Thank you!

Have you tried the "Old Film" effect in the 'FX' library

old film can add some light flicker but "scratches" ? unless you as a kid checked how hard the TV glass is with a shilling.
Troy, look in the NB wiggle for a TV fritz add NB rolling wave for shadows . But for the grid you better add an overlay.

Thanks, but that is more of a "silent film" effect, whereas I was looking for "electronic screen" type of effect. Thanks, though!

Thanks but I meant more of an overlay effect, than a rolling, electronic effect. As in, a video being viewed on a monitor and how "electronic" it would look.

I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it correctly, heh.

Here is an example of what I mean:

New Blue Video Essentials 5 (V) has an "Old TV" effect which will give the result you are looking for, but not sure if VSX9 has it as a standard inclusion, as I have all Essentials packages (1-7) which I just copy across from 1 version to another

Well that view was only if you stuck your nose to the screen,
The burger FXbench might had similar thing but that needed lot of tweaks .
