Hi everyone,
I have a problem that nobody can seem to figure out at Microsoft, at Dell, or my regular computer guy so it's been narrowed down to strictly a Corel based issue. I, like many went through the X7/Windows 7 fiasco BUT, just before that firestorm took hold, I suffered the following. Once I would finish a project, I'd save 2 files; an MP4 for uploading to YouTube, and an MPG in order to burn to a dvd for playback on tv. Problem is, all of the sudden, my Windows DVD Maker program stopped burning the MPG files to the disk. The "Creating DVD Please wait" window would appear and the encoding process would begin, but then all of the sudden it would eject the disk and "Cannot create the DVD. An error occurred while burning" message would appear. I have no idea what the deal is. If I try burning MPG's from past projects I created in X7 a few months ago, they burn successfully but none of the new ones I've created will burn. Does anyone have ANY clue what might be causing this!? I've exhausted all options and have honestly spent more than 15 hours on the phone with different company tech supports and nobody can tell me it's their issue to fix. Dell says the laptop and external drive are working properly, and they are, I can burn other files, images, and videos, the problem is just with recently rendered VSP X7 projects.
A TON of thanks in advance for any insight that anyone can provide.
~Kris

Hi Kris
Just confirm a few things regarding your work flow.
1 / you complete the project
2 / Share – Mpeg2 – choosing one of the top options for a standard definition DVD
similar to…..
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps --- Up to 75 minutes of video ( Max)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
3 / The resulting video file is smaller than 4.3 Gb and will fit to disc without further conversion. Otherwise reduce the data rate from 8000kbps to achieve that.
Play that video to check quality.
4 / Start a new project
5 / Share Create Disc – DVD – opens the burner module.
6 / Top Left Add Video file adding the file you created above.
7 /Edit your menu
8 / Lower Left – Project Settings cogwheel, “Do Not Convert Compliant is checked / ticked.
Navigation Panel is set to your liking.
9 / Last window – choose to create a Disc Image ISO file—deselect Create to Disc
When pressing Burn the process should start with Convert Menu not Convert Title (re 8 above)
10 / Play the resultant ISO using VCL Medial Player will play menu and video.
11/ Using X7 Tools – Burn from Disc Image (Iso) to burn to disc
Windows can also burn ISO to disc, right click iso file for options, I would suggest you use that option and if you have problems then I doubt its a Video Studio issue, unless the iso is corrupt?

Re: Saving a project in MPG format results in an error
Hi Lata,
Thanks for your quick response. I'll address your concerns below, with what I found.
#2 - Everything is a match for me with the exception of the audio data rate. You indicate 256 kbps, however mine shows 384kbps.
#9 - You said to deselect Create to Disk. This option was grayed out for me the first time I attempted and was unable to do anything with it. I assume this would be considered deselected then. The second time I tried, I was able to deselect. Not sure what I did differently.
I downloaded the VLC media player and the video ran fine. I was also able to burn it to a DVD(!!!) and it played on the tv. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Not being tech savy, like I said originally, I was saving the .mpg's of all videos I created, about 5 - 10 minutes each, in a folder and once I had half a dozen or so, I would use Windows DVD maker and burn the group to dvd and give to family and friends to watch. It sounds like my problems up to this point truly are Microsoft related issues with Windows DVD maker. I guess I'll just have to use Video Studio - Share, to burn a disk. Hoping there won't be problems if some of the older projects I saved in mpg format, (but haven't burnt to disk yet) can also be included with videos in the iso format. I was able to burn a disk with several past mpg files so I'm guessing there aren't any issues doing it.
Thank you again for your time and experience!
