Re: ENCOUNTERED AN IMPROPER ARGUMENT Hauppauge ImpactVCB-e P
It's definitely x8 that has been giving me the problem, Trevor. My previous post was perhaps confusing -- I used to have x7 on this computer, which I used only occasionally. (I primarily edit on a desktop.) To prep for this on-the-road shoot, I deleted x7 from the laptop and installed x8. That's when I started getting the "Encountered an improper argument" problem.
I just booted the laptop a short time ago, clicked on VS x8 and got the box to do Service Pack 3. So I just ran that service pack and will see if every thing is AOK with VideoStudio x8 in a moment.... [Time passes]... Okay, I just did a bit of editing and all went normal. I proclaim it fixed, even if I don't have the Ultimate content.
It's tempting to load the Ultimate features one at a time to see where the fault crops up, but it's more tempting to have VS working on my computer for the paid gig I have coming up. Maybe once that is over.

Hi Bob
Leaving well alone is probably the best idea, as you know I have not had this problem for a long time, but was a pain when it did occur.
Good luck

Hi Guys
I passed the information to Corel Support they do want to fix this problem but need your help in creating a Dump file
Also to backup your user data file, the files will be quite large, I do not have any details as to how you upload the files to Corel as yet
OK this is what you do
Run the program till you receive the error message.
1 / go to this folder
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\18.0 or 17.0????
Create a copy of this folder (18.0) to upload to Corel. (approx. 50Mb)
2 / Open Task Manager – Processes tab – locate vstudio.exe
Right click for Create Dump File, will be saved here:-
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp\vstudio.DMP
The DMP is very large at 500Mb ish?
If you have a sharing site One Drive or Google Drive then upload to there to share with Corel.
I will try to find more info from Corel

Okay, I will work on this this week and let you know when I get it done. Or if there is a different result.

Do you have older versions of Video Studio, maybe X5 that you can install as a temp measure?pvreditor wrote:Okay, I will work on this this week and let you know when I get it done. Or if there is a different result.

Yes, I do. However, the installation that gave me this problem is on my laptop, which I seldom use for editing. I mostly edit on a desktop and that won't be affected.lata wrote:Do you have older versions of Video Studio, maybe X5 that you can install as a temp measure?

Re: ENCOUNTERED AN IMPROPER ARGUMENT Hauppauge ImpactVCB-e P
I got the same advertisement on June 18th after I tried using my CVS-Pro-X5 Ultimate program. That advertising pop-up didn't occur until after the TripleMusic fiasco. Plus, I am still using Patch #2 (for CVSX9) since I'm very leery of attempting to install Patch #3. I don't know what it does since Corel refuses to tell users exactly what changes were included. My CVS-Pro-X9-Ultimate is working. I can even drag/drop files from my hard disk drive (using Windows Explorer-File Manager) to my Timeline without error. (See my EDIT below). I have the TripleMusic folder 'hidden' within the program so, I don't know what advantages Patch #3 might be giving to users.
EDITED: June 20, 2016 at approx 7:15AM (Pacific time):
Well, it turns out that I cannot drag/drop files into my VSPX9U with SP2 (as I could do a few days ago). Something has changed without my knowledge since then. Now, Corel is attempting (again) to FORCE me into accepting their SP3 Update! I declined that offer because I don't know the consequences of accepting it. Gee whiz!
Anyway, here's what I get now when using CVS-Pro-X5-Ultimate now:

You say you are still using VS X( with SP2, version #19.2.0.4) but then state that you hid the TripleScoop music folder. Since the TripleScoop folder came with SP3 it means that you have SP3 installed. What is you VS X9 version that shows with Help/About?Old_Friend wrote:I got the same advertisement on June 18th after I tried using my CVS-Pro-X5 Ultimate program. Re: ENCOUNTERED AN IMPROPER ARGUMENT Hauppauge ImpactVCB-e P
Hi canuck. Sorry about the confusion. I've been, and still am, confused about this situation. I've attached an image which will hopefully explain what I meant to say, earlier. When I said "SP2" I was referring to the update BEFORE "SP3". In my "SP2" version, I used to be able to drag/drop files to the Timeline but, that no longer works. Please see my EDITED, previous post.
The following attached image is of my current "SP2" (19.3.0.18) version. It shows "TripleMusic" (I 'unhid' temporarily so that I could take the screen shot). I hope I haven't confused things even more than before.

That image shows that you have the 1st version SP3 installed which had the drag&drop problem. The newest SP3 (version 19.3.0.19) corrects this problem but seems to have introduced new problems

Re: ENCOUNTERED AN IMPROPER ARGUMENT Hauppauge ImpactVCB-e P
Sorry "Old Friend" but the 3 in your version number shows that you have SP3 installed - this is the one which caused many people many problems and added the Triple Scoop library giving version 19.3.0.18
Corel attempted to cure those problems by updating Service pack 3 - still SP3 - - when this is installed the version number becomes 19.3.0.19
Many people have removed all SP3 and are still running 19.2.0.4

Oh my! I'm very sorry about that. I appreciate your reply. So, I guess I'll have to do nothing until enough time has passed to see if whether or not Corel will straighten things out. I'll stop posting until then. Besides, I seem to have hijacked the OP's thread. Apologies. I never meant to do that.canuck wrote:That image shows that you have the 1st version SP3 installed which had the drag&drop problem.
