Video will play as "Clip" but not "Project"

When I put an MPEG-4 video from my Logitech 920c webcam in the timeline of VideoStudio Pro x7, the video will play when I play it as "Clip", but when I try to play it as "Project" only a still frame shows even though the audio plays normally.

Has anyone experienced this? Thank you in advance for any ideas!!

More than likely one or two things are happening. The Project Properties are different than that clip, and playing as project requires lots of conversions and perhaps changing resolution and frame rates and your pc can't do it well. The second is when adding lots of filters to the clip can also slow down the playing on project mode and your pc may not be able to keep up. Try using proxy files.

To help you better, give more details about your pc, about the clip (resolution, frame rate, bit rate), about the project properties and about any filters or any edits made to the clip.

Al, that makes perfect sense to me based on what I am seeing. Do you have any recommendations for how I can work around this?

CVSX7 did have a few issues with Mp4 and Mov type video files, Corel brought a series of fixes by replacing a “ulmp4lib.dll” file.

I had thought the latest release file was incorporated in the service pack.
But you could try this version, and if things get worse simply revert to the original installed file.

We experienced exactly the same on VSX8pro. All ok on clip but inevitably crashed on "Project" playback (same with MP4 files). We even noticed some line at the bottom of the image while trying to play on project.

After help from here and a bit of reading online, Corel advise to try a traditional "uninstall"...It worked for us. It seems that they know that sometimes VS can experience problems with the playback.

A little advise from Ken

first, check in Preferences > General and make sure the box beside "Show Message when inserting first video clip" is ticked. Then start a new project. Before anything else, insert one of your mp4 clips into the timeline. You should get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip, which you say yes to. You can then remove the clip, and insert the photos and clips in the order you want.

Since we reinstalled VSX8 and changed the preferences: no more problems at all.
