X8 Gradient preview

In the Help file, under "What is new in X8", I see :
• Gradient Preview - now you can view gradient updates on your
image as you make the changes in the Material Properties

I don't understand how to test this new feature.
Somebody knows ?

It's only for vectors. After adding a vector to the image select it with the pick tool. Then click the background swatch to open the materials dialog. Any changes you make to the gradient will show up on the vector. Including choosing new gradients.

This only works if a gradient is already set to the vector though. If you're changing over from a solid color to a gradient color, it won't show up until you accept the gradient first. After the gradient has been set the first time the live updating will work.

While happy to have it....the more I use it the more underwhelmed I am. But they've been getting into incremental improvements so it's possible the effect will be improved over time.

it would be nice if it worked with raster and mask layers too...
just the same way the color replacement tool does using plain colors

Tested with right-click first and the new feature doesn't work.
Tested with left-click and it works !
