A question about plugins.

Post by brucet »

This is more a post as information as it is looking for an answer. Mind you I would love an answer if anyone has one.

I have Topaz plugins. They work fine with my PSPx7. (64bit). Now as 'insurance' I have started using another editing program. (Long story but Corel is making me nervous). That program is Photoline. Photoline is an excellent editor but I still love some of PSPx7's features. So I can have the best of both world as Photoline allows external programs. So anytime within Photoline I can call up PSPx7. Do my editing in PSPx7 and pop back to Photoline.
Now Photoline also uses plugins. I have it set up with my Topaz plugins. (64bit).

Now here's the issue. If I'm working in Photoline and decide I want to do something in PSPx7 I use the external program feature of Photoline to open/transfer my work to PSPx7. But when I do this PSPx7 doesn't see any Plugins. However if I have already opened PSPx7 without going through Photoline the plugins are there. If I open PSPx7 independently and then open Photoline then decide to open PSPx7 via the external program feature then the plugins appear in PSPx7.

Question/comment. PSPx7 only see plugins if PSPx7 opens 'normally'. If PSPx7 is opened by another program it doesn't see the plugins. Why doesn't PSPx7 see plugins if PSPx7 isn't opened 'normally'?

I don't know the answer to your specific question. However, it seems to me that if you are opening PSP from Photoline, then it sounds to me as if you're opening it the same way you open third party plugins from PSP, Photoline or other editors. So perhaps the way Photoline opens PSP doesn't open all of its options. Many of us experience an issue that when opening PSP by itself it still takes some time for it to load some resources, and with the number of plugins I have it often takes a couple of minutes before I can access the plugins. Perhaps Photoline doesn't give PSP time to load them.

In any event, it's not really an issue as I see it. If, as it sounds, you are using the best of both programs when doing your image editing, then just open PSP first, give it time to load its plugins, etc., then Photoline.

Found the answer. My mistake. When setting up the external program within Photoline I accidentally selected the 32bit version of PSPx7.
