....I forgot to say that I have installed the upgrade VS 9 CD only....as it seems that there is no difference between the disks of full version and the upgrade one (when I installed first the upgraded VS9 on my old VS 8, a separate and independant VS 9 program had ben set up on my PC).

VS9 Instability

Post by JohnFC »

I have had the same issues.
I use DVD Picture show 3, but find it very slow and cumbersome when adding music and titles etc.

I then downloaded a trial of VS9.

My intention was to use DVD PS to produce an MPG file of my slides only – with timings, transitions etc. No sound, no titles and no menu – just a plain mpg files.

I then took these mpg files into VS9 and got to the final stages of menu creration, burning a disc etc.

That is where the problems come in.

In doing the final output: either direct to disc, or to DVD files or to DCD image, two things happen regularly:

1 - During the compilation ‘building period’ VS9 disappears from the screen. No waring, no error message – it just vanishes.

2 – If the compilation ‘building period’ completes successfully, on playing the dvd, some of the menu chapters do not auto forward to the next chapter. The last image remains on the screen and does not even go back to the menu.

I have tried this about a dozen times in the past week, and jet to get a final outpit that is okay. So, about to give up on VS9 and give Pinnacle a go.

My system is relatively new, Dual P4 processors, 250GB SATA drive, 1GB Ram.

I hear you on the "Vanishing Video Studio" phenomena on DVD creation.

That's why I'm here looking for answers too. That problem is something else. No warning No error codes no program trace - it just disappears.

SERENITY NOW! :cry:

VS9 Instability

May have solved this.
- Un-installed VS9
- Emptied all temp directories (eg c:\Documents and Settings\'yourname'\Local Settings\Temp\)
- Ran scandisk just in case
- Re-boot system
- Re-installed VS9 from fresh

So far so good.
Working fine.

Maybe try this and see how it goes.

Uninstalling VS9 Can Be Tricky

Post by chinito »

Had a similar issue while trying to install/uninstall/reinstall upgrade version of VS9. Got the following advice on uninstalling VS9 from Ulead via email:

1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from
control panel Add/Remove programs.
Delete following folders
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead
VideoStudio
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
=>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\

Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1.

2) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Please del the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" folder in C:\program
files\ulead system
4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar
5) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
(If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 9 file name showed in the Add/Remove
Program, please do point 5)
6) Then reinstall UVS 9 again

Hey, what do I know - it worked....
