Crashing when trying to add titles; VideoStudio Pro X8

I've looked at FAQs but can't immediately trace anything that fit the bill exactly.

I've finished editing some clips but when trying to add titles the program crashes (never happened before). All updates are, well.....up to date.

Any thoughts please?; probab;y something very simple that I'm not seeing.

Which version of Videostudio are you using - - - X7 / X8 / X9

do the titles you are adding have movement in them ?

is it OK if you just make a simple text title yourself ?

It's X8, as in the heading of my post.

It is just a simple text title I'm having problems with.

sorry must learn to read topic titles as well as content

So - you click on the "T" - double click in the preview screen - do your typing - click in the preview screen away from the text - title block appears in timeline

where in that procedure does the crash occur - - the title will insert where the cursor is, make sure there is nothing in the title track at that point

It's OK Brian: I do the same sort of thing.

I click on the 'T', double click on the preview screen then it crashes.

I don't think any one has reported that problem before.

if it happened to me here and now I would try the following

first I would close Videostudio - wait 30 seconds or so - restart Videostudio and immediately see if I can create a title - with nothing else at all open inside VideoStudio. if you can then drag and drop the timeline title block up into the title library - open your present project (do not save 'untitled' ) and see if you can drag the title down into your new project.

No. Can't even do that for it crashes, with nothing else open, the moment I double click on the preview pane; might that should be spelled 'pain'

I just don't have a solution to your problem Andy - I hope another user can help you

I would now try resetting Videostudio - but without any confidence in the result

To reset Videostudio - Close the programme go to C:\Users\[username] \AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)

the folder may be hidden so you will need to 'unhide folders' in windows

and rename the 18.0 folder you will find there to 18.0_old (just in case)

now restart Videostudio - it may take a little while longer than normal as it re- creates and rebuilds the 18.0 folder.

Test title creation


if that does not work - then pending someone else having a definitive solution I would be using my photo/image manipulation programme to put typed titles on a transparent .png and putting that in one of the overlay tracks

Thanks for your thoughts Brian. I've just tried resetting but to no avail.

I have a 'ticket in to Corel Support and will see what they say; I'll report back

Hi Brian

Problem sorted.

After from very non - support 'Support' where my fairly easy to understand problem seemed, not able at all to be understood, I decided to go back to basics. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program; I then added the various updates/service packs/patches and................Bingo!
