No voice-over recording with VS X9 and VS X7

Post by robspa48 »

Hi,

surprisingly I cannot record Voice-over within RECORD/CAPTURE panel (I get an error message) whereas I can do that when I record voice with the Screen capture option. As a turnaround, I'm recording my voice in Screen capture, then I insert the clip, split the audio and delete the video. This shows that my USB microphone is working properly. So, where is the problem?
Thanks in advance for your help

Can you confirm - after you have chosen 'voice over' in the Record/capture option and the 'record volume' window opens that the the volume slider is up towards the right hand end and do you see any movement at all in the volume indicator.

No Brian - after I have chosen 'voice over' in the Record/capture option, no 'record volume' window opens but a window with an error message saying "Impossible to open wave input device". Instead, as I mentioned, I have no audio problem when using Screen capture....

I get this sort of message if I open that record voiceover item in VS and there's no microphone plugged in. Plug in microphone - message gone, recording OK.
Check the windows control panel sound page to ensure you do have a recording device identified and enabled, and that the sound levels in the related tab are NOT zero.

Davidk, I do have a microphone plugged in (that one which is integrated in my webcam) which works fine with any other application (Screen capture, Skype, Windows voice recorder...)

Well, I just did it with my webcam mic.
I had to set it up as my Default microphone in Windows. After testing it there, it was no problem recording using it.
I know for sure that you have to select your video and mic settings in Skype. It's not so intuitive here in VS though. You open for Voice-Over and that's it. Just "maybe" there should be a mic source selection option? I sometimes will have 3 different mics (webcam, headset and VO mic) hooked up to my computer at the same time. So being able to select which mic might be a good thing?

I appreciate Toni, but my webcam mic is already set up as the default device in Windows...and still unable to record on VideoStudio Voice-over option! This is quite a mistery for me...

While it is set up as "default", did you go to the Configure button at the bottom just to check that it is working within Windows? Yes, a pain.... I did the dictation thing and it said all is well.
I opened up VO and it was working there just fine. Logitech C210 webcam.

After configuration and dictation, everything is OK, but I'm still getting an error message when trying to use it in VO...

Is this a USB device? If so, maybe a different USB port?

no positive result, even after changing usb port. I repeat: microphone is working fine with any other application but VO in VideoStudio.

Eventually I contacted the Corel support and got the following answer which solved my problem:

"I would like to suggest to first try to delete all the temp files from your computer and reset your VideoStudio X9 to its default settings.
To delete the temp files in your computer, kindly follow the instructions that are provided on the link below.
http://howto.corel.com/en/c/How_to_remo ... tem_issues
Now, to reset your VideoStudio X8 to its default settings, please follow the instructions below.
Before you reset your VideoStudio to its default settings, I would like to recommend saving your files first:
To save the VideoStudio library:
- Click Settings
- Click Library Manager
- Click Export Library...
- Select a destination folder or create one
- Click the OK button
To Import the VideoStudio Library
- Click Settings
- Click Library Manager
- Click Import Library...
- Select the destination folder that holds the exported library information
- Click the OK button
After saving your files, you can now proceed on resetting your software to its default settings:
1. On the keyboard, launch the Run box by pressing the Windows button then the letter R (Windows + R)
2. In the Open box, type %APPDATA% and press the enter key.
3. In the new window, find the Ulead Systems folder.
4. Open the Ulead Systems folder.
5. Open the Corel VideoStudio Pro folder.
6. There should be a folder named 19.0 here.
7. Rename 19.0 to 19.0_old.
If the instructions above does not work, may I request for you to provide the msinfo32 and the winaudit report of your computer.
To get the msinfo32:
1. Go to the "Start" menu.
2. Click "Run" and type "msinfo32".
3. Go to the "File" menu and click "Save".
4. Browse to an appropriate location to save the file.
5. Type a filename into the appropriate field and ensure the "Save as type" is set to "System Information File (*.NFO)".
To get the WinAudit report:
1. Download winaudit.zip from; https://winaudit.codeplex.com/.
2. Unzip the contents and run the application.
3. Once it is launched, click on Audit.
4. Save the audit as a HTML file.
5. Attach and send the file to me by replying to this email.
Do note that I will need both of this files to properly review what is the cause for you to experience that issue.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
Regards,

Glad everything is working for you now. What puzzled me is that your post said the webcam mic didn't work in both X7 and now, X9. Two complete and different installations. Resetting X9 worked for you. I wonder if you tried X7 would that have worked for you also.
