Re: Sample Work Flows
Three issues:
1. Your snip shots were the key Brian, because that's how I noticed that I needed to be under the "1 Add Media" tab, as opposed to the center tab, in order to get the options I needed for your recommended next steps. Thanks Brian.
2. When I proceed from the Edit tab to the Share tab, my newly edited video is still showing in the Preview window, but is no longer in the Timeline. With VS 11+, I recall someone suggesting, "With project still showing in the timeline, click the Share tab."
After selecting the Share tab, Is it still recommended that one put the edited video back in the Timeline prior to proceeding with, > DVD, > Add/Edit Chapters, > Insert scenes as chapter, > OK, delete unwanted Chapter points, >OK, > Create menu, > Next, > tab 2 Menu & Preview, > Add Note Menu ?
3. I'm not able to find an option in the gallery that I can use to develop my preferred video Menu. The video Menu I had always used with VS 11+ is shown below, and that's what I'm trying to duplicate. Can you tell me where I can find the options to select the dark blue background on which to place my six motion menus?

Hi Virg
I have created a new menu template having a dark blue background.
I will e-mail you the files with instructions on how to Copy and Paste to your pc. Then the template will be available from the gallery.
Post updated
Look out for the second e-mail, that one will contain the attached file

Hi Brian
One thing I did not consider is whether Virg is working with 4:3 or 16:9, I had assumed the later, but given the old videos it may be 4:3

Re: Sample Work Flows
Many thanks to Trevor and Brian. Sorry for not acknowledging receipt of your sample video menus sooner, but I've been busy trying to implement Trevor's idea. With some help from our daughter today, have downloaded Trevor's sample video Menu. Double clicked on it and it appeared in the Preview window with the six thumbnails of my six Chapter points. It looks like the only problem is the background color does not match the preceding thumbnail which is the preferred royal blue.
Can you detect any clues from the attached screen shot of the "Menu & Preview" pop up as to why the color changed?
If you think my use of 4:3 vs 16:9 is the issue, I would consider switching to 16:9. All of my remaining home movies to be captured, edited, and burned to DVD's, were those taken since 2010 with a small Sony Handycam (2010 vintage). I'll get the details on my camera and start checking tomorrow to see if these mini dvd's were recorded with 4:3 or 16:9.
I apologize for not getting to try Brian's approach yet. Just trying to take this one step at a time to cut down on some of the confusion on my part. You guys really have helped me a bunch, and I appreciate it.

Re: Sample Work Flows
That colour change is very odd - Trevor did make an early menu of the pale blue colour but then changed it to dark blue when we saw your DVD menu - somehow Videostudio has picked up the original - we need to work on that
But I think virg's post has solved your last question Trevor - he is still working in 4:3

Re: Sample Work Flows
Hi Virg
Sorry for the 16:9 v 4:3 confusion, as your original video files are 4:3 as indicated by the thumbnail display you should continue working with 4:3
I will send a new version that you can add in the same way but to the 4:3 folder, hopefully with a dark blue background, I think I understands what is wrong.
In the meantime please use one of the programs templates and try modifying to replace the background image as Brians instructions.
Save the blue image by right click “Save Picture as”

Hi Virg / Brian
Close Video Studio….
Please save the attached folder, then copy and paste to the 4:3 folder here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\Content\Menu Template\4x3
Make sure you copy to the 4:3 folder, this folder now contains a blue background image which should now show correctly.
Please delete the whole folder Virg_2 from here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\Content\Menu Template\16x9\ Virg_2

Re: Sample Work Flows
Trevor & Brian; Have been working, with the video menu info you provided, to further tune my workflows and I see a light at the end of what had been a rather dark tunnel. Have made enough progress to generate a few more questions, but thought the screen shot below might assist in making my question more understandable. After capturing a mini dvd from some years ago, and switching from the Capture tab to the Edit tab, one can hopefully see that there are 15 thumbnails in the Gallery, and the first frame of the first clip (upper left corner of the Gallery) is in the preview screen on the left. I have also placed these first four thumbnails on my timeline.
After significant viewings, including elapsed time comparisons, and comparisons to viewing the original mini dvd on my television, I've come to the conclusion that the first 4 thumbnails in the Gallery (counting left to right from the upper left corner) include all of the frames that are in the subsequent 12 thumbnails. My questions are:
1. Am I correct in thinking that the first 4 thumbnails include all of the frames of the subsequent 12 thumbnails?
2. If I use only those first 4 thumbnails for my very minor editing before my Share process, am I correct in thinking that I haven't excluded any non edited portions of the original mini dvd before trying burn with a motion thumbnail menu?
3. Again, if I'm correct, are these two different sets of thumbnails named differently for reference or comparison?
4. By any chance, are the subsequent 12 thumbnails called "scenes?"
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to be out of commission for a week or two, but God willing, I plan to be back at it soon thereafter. Thanks again for all of your coaching and assistance. Virg Mueller

Re: Sample Work Flows
Hi Virg
It is very difficult to answer those questions with only the image to look at.
It does appear that some are duplications.
The green tick shows clips being use on the timeline, if clip 1 and 5 were the same file then 5 would also have a tick.
I would say you have uploaded the footage again, or created copies on the hard drive?
You should right click a clip and choose locate on computer, that will open the folder containing the actual files, I assume Mpeg2 files
Try to locate all 16 clips.
Ok the brain is now working.
I assume you used Import Digital Media from a Mini DVD disc.
The import panel lists all Titles, then lists all Chapters.
You should import only the Titles.
If you choose both then you do get duplicates, Titles and then Chapters.
So yes I think you are correct that the first 4 are your main files followed by 12 chapters, effectively duplications.
You could of course add the last 12 (chapters ) to the timeline and edit those, as the import has cut the footage for you?
Try on a new project.
The above refers to Titles and Chapters, For import from disc, do not get confused with DVD Menu Titles and Chapters. (similar but different)
The thumbnails in the library and timeline are simply representing your video clips.
And I will be away for the next few days, should have internet connection but no program to refer to.

Re: Sample Work Flows
Feeling much better and back at it. Thanks to the coaching and assistance from Trevor and Brian, I have now succeeded in using my draft Capture, Edit, and Share Workflows to produce a completed DVD including a video menu which has my selected six motion menus, on the royal blue background that Trevor provided. Played the completed DVD using a DVR and TV and it meets all of my project objectives.
The only problem is that the video menu starts out with one of the VS ProX9 sample gallery menu backgrounds and associated music, and then transitions to my custom menu. I don't know how the sample menu template and music got added, but perhaps I accidently clicked on something I didn't want when I was entering menu titles and dates for each of the six motion menus. As a result, I'm going to repeat the entire process and burn another DVD, but be very careful during the Share process, to not accidently include the unwanted sample template.
Two questions;
1. Is it possible to play my edited movie including my completed video menu, on my computer prior to going through the process of burning it to a DVD?
2. If not, is it possible to play just my completed video menu on my computer, prior to going through the process of burning it to a DVD?
Glad to be back and on the mend, and looking forward to your response. Virg Mueller

Re: Sample Work Flows
Did you do a Preview before you burned the DVD?
You could "burn" to a Video_TS folder set before burning to DVD and play that folder set using a software player such a VLC

Re: Sample Work Flows
not quite sure what you have done at the share stage when burning the DVD
When you finished all your editing what did you do then -------
normally I would render every project to be included on the final DVD to an mpeg-2 file - by going to 'Share' and choosing the computer screen down the middle- then choosing to make an mpeg-2 video
so I am expecting you now to have 6 individual video files - is that correct
you can then play each one in (say) windows media player to see if they are good and what you wanted - have you done that ?
only then should you go to the DVD burning section - - - but you now need to explain what you did there to get the unusual arrangement you now report
when you get that far I do not burn a disc - but create an .iso file - you can then download the free VLC player that will play the iso just as though it was a DVD - but NOT on a DVD
let us know when you have 12 videos that are good
