VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
I can't seem to find any export output options to create an MP4 (or AVI or XAVC or whatever) using the HEVC encoder. All my options stop at H.264. I thought VSPx9 had support for creating HEVC/H.265 encoded output files. This is VSPx9, with the recent SP1 installed, on Windows 7 64-bit. I didn't think I could be this dense, so hoping I am missing something simple.
Thanks

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
If your computer specs are what is listed, then, at least from my understanding, you can not work with HEVC because your computer is not capable.
From Corel: HEVC import requires Windows 10 and graphics card hardware support along with Intel 6th Generation processor (Skylake) is required for HEVC hardware encoding
This is from page 12 of the user manual.
So while yes, it does support it, you need the hardware and software to get it to work. I do not see the HEVC option on my computer.

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
That's not "support", it is just silly marketing.
They don't have the software stack in their software, and can only use intel's software for that. Nvidia has a similar software stack (and I think to some extent AMD), but those are not supported, that's just weak!
So this X9 is worth upgrading from X8.5 only to people that have Skylake CPU's and also not have another video card in their PC. They expect this to sell?

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
If you are editing H.265 files, I guess so. You will need the hardware to edit these files. I can only imagine how long to process the information in those highly compressed files to do any reasonable editing. The problem with this codec when it first came out (and the Samsung NX1 is about the only camera that supports it) is that not even the pro editors could handle it natively without transcoding it to something more NLE/computer friendly.
I can only imagine trying to edit these types of files on "Joe Consumer" hardware. This codec while is supported, which major consumer cameras outside of Samsung used it? None. Now, Samsung is out of the camera business.
I wonder how many people actually want H.265 support and will use it compared to 4K support and XAVC support, along with continued 1080 support. Yes, the files are smaller, I agree. But that has not been a problem for most people editing in the consumer world. Another competitor is bragging about hardware support for H.265, and you guessed it, it requires the right hardware and OS to work with it.
As to why buy X9? One of the most asked for feature requests have been for Multicam. It's in every thread as a request. Now, it's there and works quite well for a v1 addition. I'm not a "bling" man, but Newblue does have some great plugins.
I skipped X7 and X8. They didn't offer me anything over X6U. And even in X8, they got rid of Smartsound support. But multicam is a feature that can be used for more than just multicamera editing.

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
Well, the competitor software (same price range) has multicam from 2013 and supports hardware encoding of both h264 (from more than two years ago) and h265 (last year), all the way up to 4k.
Corel doesn't do more than 1080p encoding even today (unless you have the very narrow type of CPU). Makes no sense to me to upgrade from X8.5 and I am not even gonna be using that one anymore since probably I will switch to other NLE.
I'm disappointed, that's all.

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
No, they did not support hardware support for H.265. Read the forums where you will find the truth. As for multicam, yes, they and another have had it, but that's mote. X9 has it now.
IF you need to work with HEVC, you better get the hardware that the other software requires too.
I have several different editors on my computer for various reasons and needs. I do have my favorite that I do most of my editing in. I do not worry about exported file sizes since for the most part, my work is under 10 minutes. My computer, though a little long in tooth works fine. X9 has a lot of features that I find worthwhile to "me". I do not need the compression of H.265, although it would be nice, especially with large project and file sizes (4K). But my needs aren't there right now. If yours are, then you have to do what is best for you. Hard drive space is cheap.
NLE's are tools to me. I use the one that is best suited for the task that I have and what I want to accomplish. So, I get the tool I need. I am starting to remove "tools" because of lack of use and the availability of something similar in what I like to use.
Then there is the playback of these files....

I thought h265 support is really poor. Can you upload to YouTube? I doubt any DVD player will handle it and no TV's I know handle it (maybe some Samsungs?). What are you planning to do with h265 files?

Working in 4K, you get very large files. If you can save the space and have the same quality as H.264, it's beneficial. There will be some sort of "standard" as 4K continues to move forward.
40% of new TV's in the States sold are 4K sets.

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
Thanks for the dialog. I was planning to create 4K content from one of several sources (digital SLR, camcorder, etc) for display on the nice big beautiful 4K displays that are becoming more and more prevalent. There are so few sources of commercial 4K content these days (unless you are binge watching Netflix), but the cameras sure are able to capture it. An I guess they are way out ahead of the ability to edit and display. My Roku media adapter is nice and portable, and can put out a nice 4K stream to the TV but it only supports 4K UGC in HEVC format (or VP9). So I guess I will look at upgrading my host to meet the minimum requirements for VSPx9. Probably not too soon to do that anyway.

HEVC is the commercial name for the ITU-T standard h265:

I edit Panasonic 4K video. To make the editing tolerable on my system, proxy files do just fine. Yes, they have to be rendered. But I would rather go off and do something while that is happening than struggling on the timeline.

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
Hoped to "share" HEVC/X.265 but no... installed VideoStudio X9 Ultimate on Win 10 64-bit machine with Intel 6700K (Skylake) and GTX 960 graphics card. Can export H.264 MP4 videos in 3840x2160 both 30 and 60 Hz, but I can't find any option to choose H.265 or HEVC export... where is it added in the VideoStudui user interface when all preconditions are met?
And the followup: is there an Intel driver, H.265 encoder codec or something that needs to be installed for it to work in VideoStudio? Have to use the integrated graphics and it's driver (not GTX960)? Is there a tool to check for H.265-compliant hardware...?
Regards,
Erik L.

Re: VSPx9 How to export to 4K HEVC/H.265?
Eventually got this reply from second level support:
> As you have a Skylake processor, you are half way to having the h.265 support.
> Regretfully, nVidia and AMD compatibility has not yet been engaged in X9.
> We expect this change to be applied in the next updates.
Guess I need to disable the GTX 960 card and use the integrated Intel graphics for H.265 to work at this point... but then I also loose HDMI 2.0 with 4k60Hz as the ASUS Z170i motherboard doesn't have the Alpine Ridge controller... no, no, no - currently X9 doesn't really support H.265 except for under very special circumstances. Should have gone with "the other" video editing software
