Do you know if the trial version of VideoStudio X9 will capture a C920 webcam? The C920 is not appearing as an input device in X9. The Logitech software that comes with the C920 operates the webcam correctly. Device Manager shows the C920 under Imaging Devices.
Thanks for advice or insight as you may have.

Well, I also have the Logitech C920 webcam and it works perfectly with VSX9 full version. I would have thought that the trial version should display your webcam but the trial is a cut down version so maybe that function does not work.
Are you saying that when you click on Capture, Capture Video, then select Source, your webcam does not show

Exactly, there is no option to select the a webcam. The only option that has a "red dot" in the corner, to show that it is available, is Screen Capture. When I click on Capture Video the Source field is grayed out and a pop-up window with the error message about no video driver or no device connected appears.RobertOZ wrote:...Are you saying that when you click on Capture, Capture Video, then select Source, your webcam does not show
I installed a trial version of Premiere Elements 14 and the webcam shows up and operates Ok.
I'd rather go with Corel on this application, Adobe did themselves no great service with the new business model. Besides which, I think Corel has more features.

Re: Logitech C920 with VideoStudio X9 - trial version
From what I can make out, the trial version only has "Record your Screen" as a capture option, all other options appear to have been disabled, how is a perspective purchaser supposed to evaluate a program when so many features are disabled, it's only the last few versions that Corel made that dumb decision. I can confirm however that your webcam will be functional with the full version
Re: Logitech C920 with VideoStudio X9 - trial version
I think you're exactly right, Corel offered a trial version that has no ability to evaluate the aspects or functions that I am looking for. However, I do believe that everything probably does work and will operate on this system--after I give them the money.
Hehe, what a deal, you gotta buy it to try it. FWIW, Premiere 14 trial version puts a big stripe right across the upper third of the monitor, just in case you were interested in trying out the 2/3rds version of the program.
Thanks for following up, I was about to uninstall Premiere and X9 as they are taking up a lot of disk space and they both have been annoying since the first time I started them.
Camtasia does everything I wanted to do except correct white balance. For $100, I can correct the white balance before anything gets recorded but at least I will know that it worked without editing.
Best,
Bob

RobertOZ, I received confirmation from Corel confirming your insight about the limitations on the trial version:RobertOZ wrote:Well, I also have the Logitech C920 webcam and it works perfectly with VSX9 full version. "one of the Subject Matters Experts for VideoStudio in our office about this uanble to recognize Logitech C920 webcam. He told that, this is a limited feature of a trial version."
BobIn retrospect, I think I will go with the X8 Ultimate version, it is $49.95 for the boxed version with free expedited shipping!

Re: Logitech C920 with VideoStudio X9 - trial version
I too have the C210 webcam and it worked in X9U. Nothing wrong with X8U if it offers everything you are looking for. But consider what X9U offers. While the cost difference (at the last time I looked) is $30, some of the features might be compelling to you. You are more than 1/2 the way there.
As for buying a boxed version, don't forget to patch it up.
I guess Corel (and other software makers) are starting to either limit the functionality of their software or watermark it to keep people from just using it for their purposes and then moving on to another "trial". I am sure Corel has the stats of how many trial downloads to purchases have happened. But again, X8 is great.
