email from Corel Re windows 7 updates problems

Post by Thordell »

Had an Email from Corel this morning asking if I had if everything has been resolved to my satisfaction, I replied in no uncertain terms that it was not, I had not long bought X7 Ultimate, I was not in a position to buy another version and have the same problems at a later time because they ignore old versions.

It might be useful if you stated the contents of your e-mail and Corel's reply. At least the gist of it. I accept it is useful to "blow off steam" occasionally but Forums are better used for positive advice.
X7 works fine if you remove the two Microsoft updates as explained in many other posts. I still use it occasionally but I use X8 more and will move to X9 eventually.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Terfyn,

This is the original Email I got from Corel when I asked what was happening with X7 as I couldn't open it.

Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.

There were a series of Microsoft Security Update patches released last week that fixed a vast amount of security driven issues within Windows 7.
With these updates, older versions of Videostudio (*X7 and below*) on Windows 7 have ceased function and will not launch.

We recommend either upgrading your version of Windows to the new Windows 10; if your computer can support the new platform, or consider upgrading to the newest version of Videostudio.

Please be aware that the upgrade to Windows 10, is in fact free, and if the interface is not to your liking, you have the choice to revert back to your original Operating System within 30 days.

Also, we do have a special incentive upgrade price for the new version of Videostudio. You can obtain all information at the following link:

Thank you

Hi

Please try this

- In Control Panel, Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates.
- Remove KB3126587 and/or KB3126593
- Do NOT reboot.
- Run Check for Updates again.
- Hide updates KB3126587 and/or KB3126593.

The above steps are not official, Support is working on the official position.

The e-mail above suggests that they are not working on any solutions for X7 and previous and have no intention at all of doing so

UPDATE

Restarted computer and VSx7 is loading OK now, thank you so much, I've got some dog shows to edit and all the dogs names are on the titles in the gallery, thank you again, lets hope we don't have another update disaster again soon, I'm a bit horrified as Corel didn't seem to want to do anything about it, if it wasn't for you guys I would be stumped
