The recent update by Windows on 9th/10th Feb 2016 is affecting too many customers and a comprehensive resolution is needed. My VSP x6 Ultimate will not even open and the removal of Windows updates can only be temporary.
The update KB3126587 specifically states on Microsoft's website, "Known issue # 1 - Customers using Corel VideoStudio X8 or Corel VideoStudio X9 on Windows 7 may experience a crash while launching or using that product. Customers should install the latest updates from Corel to prevent this issue, or contact Corel for more information and help" (See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3126587)
The choices for Corel are as follows:
1/ Issue a fix like any other software company for products dating back as reasonably possible. Fixes only dating back to only X8 are NOT reasonable
2/ Do nothing and hope customers spend more hard-earned money on unnecessary upgrades to X8 or X9
3/ Try and uninstall Windows updates and prevent them from re-installing every time you log off
4/ Enforce or persuade customers to upgrade to Windows 10
5/ Do nothing and let customers leave Corel and buy elsewhere
In my opinion, Corel must discuss with Microsoft what has exactly happened, announce their intention to all VSP users and then implement a fix urgently reasonably backdated to VSPx4 or VSPx5
Please, no more "let's see what happens" or "this is only a forum" or "I don't work for Corel" If you represent Corel, know Corel employees or have access to key staff members, pick up the telephone and urgently discuss this.
Thank you

I am sorry that you think so little of those of us who voluntarily run these forums and who are not paid by Corel for doing so - that you do not think that we would have already contacted all the Corel exec's and engineers we know to try and get a response
all we get is - we are working on it
as soon as anyone here knows anything we will post it
only this morning I received this
have you made your point on the Corel Videostudio facebook page - which is manned by Corel support staffWe're testing a new version of the SP1 patch that will fix the launch crash. When testing is complete, I will post that to you on the forum.
Our primary focus is to fix VSX8 and VSX9 launch crashes; once this is done we will look into your other reports.

We are independent users and we do not work for Corel. I suggest you pick up the telephone if you feel so "hot under the collar" about this. As far as I am concerned the fix sorted X8 and the temporary removal of the updates sorted out the rest. My suite of VideoStudio programmes now works fine.
Actions speak louder than words.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: URGENT STATEMENT REQ'D from Corel re Win 7 update
There is light perhaps from Brian's post that they're working on a patch. This kind of information needs to be easily found and highlighted on the homepage of the Videostudio forum.
I apologise for my assumed employee connection with Corel and you, however it is perceived by me and probably other forum users that you are well informed, key players in Corel's product support and are in touch with customers on the ground with crucial feedback relaying back to Corel.

Re: URGENT STATEMENT REQ'D from Corel re Win 7 update
There are a lot of frustrated VSP users here (and I'm one of them) and I know that it's not your fault. However, I cannot pickup the phone and call Corel about anything other than ordering software. They do not state on the Corel website that there is a problem with VSP8 related to Windows Updates or evn which update is the problem (I mean, if I knew which one it was, I could have removed it -- but with 20+ updates, trial and error removal is just not practical). Corel's database of FAQs, etc., has nothing on this problem. I naturally thought that there was a problem with my computer and uninstalled VSP8 and re-installed it several times with multiple reboots, until I noticed that it wouldn't start on another computer, either. This was a complete waste of my time! Corel's options for so-called support are their Chat line (which doesn't seem to do anything with any internet browser), filling out an online form for a "support ticket", or this forum, which Corel suggests that I use, so I'm using it. Since Corel recommends this forum for solving problems with their software, whether or not you folks are paid to support these Corel products or not, it is Corel's responsibility to monitor these postings, especially for those problems that the forum's users and administrators cannot resolve. Furthermore, Corel should not even sell these products, which they know will not work, until there is a correction/fix for them. I have had no problems using their competitor's software (Cyberlink's PowerDirector 14), which is far more robust (but much more complicated). By the way, MovieFactory 7 still works (which was not originally a Corel product, Corel having obtained it from Ulead, which is probably why it still works). Please help light a fire under Corel so that they'll fix this soon.

Re: URGENT STATEMENT REQ'D from Corel re Win 7 update
The two rogue updates have been identified and many users have had success using the following procedure
In Control Panel, Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates.
- Remove KB3126587 and/or KB3126593
- Do NOT reboot.
- Run Check for Updates again.
- Hide updates KB3126587 and/or KB3126593.
I had to reboot after that - although many did not
Obviously not a permanent solution as you are two windows updates short - but should get you going again until a solution is found
