vsp Compatibility with older versions X4 to X8
Hello.
For a long time I have created projects with X4. Today I have installed X8 Trial version and I can create new projects .vsp files but I cannot open projects .vsp files made with X4. Is there any solution to be able to open my projects vsp made in X4 with the new one X8?
Thank you very much for your help.

No, there isn't. X4 is 4 years older than X8.
X8 can save as X7 or X6 only

You should be able to open X4 projects in X8 without any problem at all - although the reverse is not true
I quite frequently open very old projects in the latest versions
however I note that you are using the trial version of X8 and that may well be the problem - the trial is a severely disabled programme and cannot open / edit or output many file types - giving you the problems you are seeing

Re: vsp Compatibility with older versions X4 to X8
Asik -- I think you have misunderstood the question. X8 can only *save* a project in X8, X7 and X6 formats. However, it should be able to open any .vsp made in any previous version of VS.
Care has to be taken, of course, since if he opens an X4 project in X8 and then saves it, then it will no longer be able to be opened in X4.
I seem to recall someone else citing this same problem, though. And I also seem to recall that the only thing we could think of was that the problem was yet another restriction in the trial version of X8. Certainly, the full version allows opening of previous versions' project files...

Unfortunately this is not always the case - see http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?t=57704Ken Berry wrote:However, it should be able to open any .vsp made in any previous version of VS.
Previously I had erroneously assumed that VS X8.5 could successfully open and relink VSP files created by previous versions of VS. This means that since I've VSP files created in X5, X6, X7 and X8, I must keep all versions of VS installed to successfully open and relink all my VSP files, i.e. there is no guarantee of backward compatibility when opening old VSP files in the latest version of VS which is surprising.

Hi boqueron
Unfortunately the Trial version of X8 cannot open vsp's made with any other version.
Only VSP's created in X8 trial can be used with video studio.
The trial version of X9 should be rolled out shortly, give that a go, again it may have the same limitations, but worth a try?

You should be able to open older vsp's using the purchased version of X8, the problem is with the trial version.

Re: vsp Compatibility with older versions X4 to X8
The post relates to using the Trial version and that we know can only use its own project files.tletter wrote:I agree but that is not the case per the threadlata wrote:tletter

The full purchased version can/should be able to open projects from older versions.
Ok so if that version is very old then yes there may be issues but going back 5 years should not be a problem.

Unfortunately this is not always the case as the problem encountered was with a fully licensed version of X8.5 - see http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57704lata wrote:The full purchased version can/should be able to open projects from older versions.

Re: vsp Compatibility with older versions X4 to X8
Confirmed, I can open my old vsp files from X4 in the new version X9 purchased. I finally I found and bought the version X9 instead of the X8.
Thank you very much to all for the help.

Two issues here...
The problem you had was specific to a clip having Timelapse speed applied.
The actual project file did open but showed a problem with that clip.
boqueron has confirmed that X4 projects can be opened in X9
I am sorry your timelapse issue has not been addressed, Corel did say they could replicate the problem and had passed to their engineering department,
and that's the last I heard on 22/10/2015, yes a while ago now.
I have not had time to test this with X9 but will do so and escalate the complaint again, whether they listen is another matter.
Post Updated
I have tested both X8 and X9 and your sample vsp opened and re-linked ok.
So Corel appear to have fixed this problem, pity they did not inform us….
I would imaging the fix was included in SP3.
