Videostudio Ultimate X6 won't launch

Post by rcfrago »

Hi ALL,

My Videostudio Ultimate X6 suddenly stopped working. The icon won't launch the program. The only thing that I did in between is to update to internet explorer version 11 from IE9. I don’t think it has something to do with the problem but it is the only thing that changed.

First thing I did when the Videostudio icon won't activate the application is to manually reset as advised by a Corel Website solution.

For Windows 7 :

1. Click on Start.
2. Click in the search box at the bottom of the Start menu.
3. Type in: %APPDATA% and press the enter key.
4. In the new window, find the Ulead Systems folder.
5. Open the Ulead Systems folder.
6. Open the Corel VideoStudio Pro folder.
7. There should be a folder named 16.0 here.
8. Rename 16.0 to 16.0_old.
9. Launch VideoStudio Pro X6.

Unfortunately, this procedure did not work. Same as before. The program refuses to open.

I then uninstalled Videostudio Ultimate X6 first and then reinstalled using the original CD installer I have.

Note: All my other Corel programs still works. Only this Videostudio won't launch.
Again, upon finishing, I double-clicked the icon and nothing happened.

I also tried opening my project files but they won't open. Each one of them won't open.
This issue seems to be quite common for it was flagged already on some versions in the last five years.
There must be a fool-proof solution found by now, or is there?

Anyone can recommend a good approach/solution?

If you had looked at a few of the most recent posts here, you will see there was a Windows 7 update which caused all versions of Video Studio running in Win 7 to stop working. See http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 31#p321131 for the suggested solution in your case, which is to uninstall the relevant Windows updates.

Hi @Ken Berry,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. It save me a lot of time. I have asked Corel Client Support about this issue but its been three days and noone has come back to me with an answer or a good direction. As a customer, I am quite disappointed.

I posted the solution that worked and mentioned your name, and this Corel User Web Board as the one who provided the answer in record time. The hyperlink to the Case Number I posted in Corel's Knowledgebase is shown below.

What about those of us who are not able to roll-back Windows 7???? There are a lot of us whose computers "lock out" being able to roll-back updates, since the computers are company-issued. When can we expect a real fix?

I do not think there will EVER be a fix to allow Videostudio X6 to run on a fully updated Windows 7 computer - your only option is to remove the two updates which cause the problem and prevent them re-installing - Corel have washed their hands of X6 and previous

If you have Videostudio installed on business computers then presumably you have business agreements for that and you may have a case to put direct to Corel business support.

but here we can only re-iterate what Corel have said frequently over the last two weeks - if you have X6 or earlier then you either update to X8 or X9 - or take the free update to Windows 10 - although I have to say there is no guarantee that X6 will function fully (if at all) on Windows 10

Thanks, Brian. I really appreciate your response, albeit it is not the answer I wanted to hear.

My copy of X6 is just over 2 years old and now it's knackered. It wasn't updated because previous updates were disappointing. Windows has become a legacy OS for me because of serious privacy concerns and VS doesn't run on Linux. That about sums up my 15 year struggle with video editing on a PC; it was never worth the trouble.

Sigh. I am yet another who fell prey to this error. I am trying to figure out which two Windows installs I need to remove. Corel did suggest that I buy the new software at a discount. This is so sad because I use only a small subset of the X6 features, let alone what is new...

Lordy. What I had to do to write this simple comment.

There are quite a few posts and topics on these forums about this problem

The two updates you need to uninstall are KB 3126587 and KB3126593

you then need to let them download again and hide them before windows installs them

chapter and verse here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58668

there is talk of three updates at the start of that topic but eventually it is narrowed down to the two I have listed above.
