WINDOW 10 PROBLEMS

Post by johnwoofan »

Long time member, first posts in years! Hope to become more active again!
Right, straight to the point!!
Over the years, I've had the occasional crash with video studio, of course!
However, since I got Windows 10 in the update last summer, this has become a regular, most annoying
occurrence :(
Sometimes several crashes within minutes of each other and restarting the program! This is with using X8, but
I tried using X7 and it happened with it too!
Windows 10 has had several updates since the initial download, another one just last night and I keep hoping
it will magically fix whatever is bugging the program!
I'm quite sure I'm not the ONLY one to have some of these issues, can anyone shed some light on the issue
and perhaps a solution or patch?
Thanks and regards to all the helpful people on this board,
Rory

Hi Rory -- and welcome back!

Before anything else, I should say that I use X8 and X7 with no problems on my Windows 10 x 64 computer. Moreover, my editing computer these days is nowhere near as powerful in terms of resources as some others here.

You haven't given any specifics about what you are doing when these crashes occur, what the video format is or what you are trying to produce. So it is difficult to guess what the problem might be. I'm not even sure about your computer -- are the details in your Profile still correct? In other words, are you still using the "Intel Quad Core" machine still listed there? And is that one of the older 6600 or 6800 models? (I used to use a 6600 as my editing computer a few years ago, and it runs fine now with Windows 10, but I have never updated VS there beyond X6... which I really only keep for legacy reasons and because that computer also has Firewire...)

If you are still using this older computer and are trying to edit, say, AVCHD video, are you using X8's SmartProxy feature?

Also, have you applied any of the updates released for X8? They are available on http://howto.corel.com/en/c/VideoStudio ... nd_Updates A word of warning, though: some users have had difficulty with SP3 so you might want to see how it goes without applying that one; or at least be prepared to reinstall X8 if you apply SP3 and it gives problems.

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the reply and tried to address my problem!
Yes, it's been a while, like I said! So I just updated my specs, definitely
not using that old machine anymore!
I'm big user of Smart Proxy always on...I have been editing with .MTS for years now
and with the last 4 versions of Video Studio, and despite the occasional once every few
months crash, it's worked well!
Now X8 is crashing randomly while editing since the update to Windows 10 last August...
Sometimes it can work for a few hours fine, sometimes a few minutes and then the crash
error icon comes up and an egg timer, which then results in the program crashing and closing!
Most frustrating, I'm pretty good at fixing my computer up when problems arise,
so know I've come here after searching Google and dealing with the obvious, like a possible
transition being used that it doesn't like, etc....Like I say, it seems to be random, no
particular thing is stopping it, or at least seems to be.
What do you think?

I can only repeat my question about whether you have applied the updates for X8...

I am having the exact same issue. Random (but persistent) crashes.
I am a brand new user, I had downloaded x8.5 ultimate originally ( a few days ago)
With x9's release I got a refund for x8 and purchased x9 hoping it would solve my issues.
X9 still crashes randomly. It will crash every 5 to 10 minutes of working (no rhyme or reason).

Is there a log file location I can pull to see if I can get some type of error ??

Thanks!
