Why would Microsoft mess with my computer or change things? I have to blame someone. It's someone's fault and it's not mine. Everything was working fine and the next day it's not. I don't know if it's Corel's fault or Microsoft. I do know that I have two days of not getting work done and that if it's Microsoft's fault they're sure as %&*# not going to reimburse me.

If you were driving your car along the road and another car crashed into yours writing yours off - would that make it the fault of YOUR cars manufacturer ?

It sounds very much as though Microsoft has damaged your Shockwwave/Flash installation - have you tried repairing that - or even un-installing Shockwave and re-installing. So how do I do that????

If Microsoft has damaged my "Shockwave/Flash installation" I wouldn't know the first thing how to repair it, or even un-install and re-install it.

Yes I have flash on my pc but it rarely works for me. I use firefox and my flash crashes so much I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

As you seem to have a problem with Flash I would re-install the latest version.
It may be Flash issue but then again may not, but you have to explore all options, and as mentioned Video Studio needs flash to view those SWF files.

It is strange that you are having these problems, I think its just coincidental that windows updates happened.

It seems odd that you can locate the SWF file using windows explorer yet following the re-link request you cannot find it?

You say you have lots of files missing, are they all SWF files or other types.

certainly something strange is going on.

Oh, have you installed the program to its default location on the C/ Drive or installed to another location.

My flash player works so I don't know what's going on. Everything in Corel with a .swf doesn't work.

But have you tried updating Flash.?

and maybe you should try re-installing Video Studio as you have reset the program by re-naming the 18.0 folder

I have updated Flash and I have no idea how to re-install video studeo. And I'm running win 7. Back in December I upgraded to win 10 but video studio didn't run at all and kept closing so I went back to 7 and haven't had any problems until a few days ago.

Well it doesn't look like Corel supports their product and I've been told on here that it's not Corel's fault, it's Mircrosofts fault. And I know microsoft won't fix anything. I can't get my money back from Corel so I'll start looking a better product that has support. Thanks guys for your help. It's not your fault. Corel just doesn't have anyone to go to and that bothers me. I'm on my second day of not being to edit and I need something reliable.

I have updated Flash and I have no idea how to re-install video studeo. And I'm running win 7. Back in December I upgraded to win 10 but video studio didn't run at all and kept closing so I went back to 7 and haven't had any problems until a few days ago.

First make sure you have your installation files and serial numbers available

Go to Program and Features to uninstall Video Studio X8
Then run the installation file called VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_1Main.exe or similar name.

Just a thought....Before you do that
If you need the library back up from Settings Library Manager Export, create a new folder on your desktop for these files.

Now try Settings Library Manager - Reset Library

Does that help. if no Re-install the program.

I re-installed videostudio x8 and now it won't even call up. On top of that my computer screen is dark too. Corel screws up one thing and then another I guess. 100's if not 1000's of hours using the damn thing and now it seems it's all lost.

I finally got it called back up by using VXS8 hotfix and now all of the pictures in the display show that yellow icon meaning the picture or program isn't in the file. At this point I'm just shutting down my computer. I've been using Corel for almost 10 years now and I've never had a problem with it but now I have years of work lost. I'm too depressed to try and fix this thing right now.

yes, yes I've downloaded, run it, downloaded it again run it again and it still doesn't work. Little comfort. It appears Microsoft has caused this problem but there is NO fix so I just scrap my video studeo. Not like their going to fix it.

First the Microsoft updates are provided to protect your computer from external attack i.e they are virus protection updates.
Second the fix provided by Corel sorts out X8 and this program will work happily with the updates present.

Microsoft continually provide updates to protect users from malicious software. This time a clash occurred. Obviously both Corel and Microsoft try to protect their products. Witness the quick supply of a fix for X8.

It does appear you are having more problems than the Windows Update created, at least for others the solution was either the Hot Fix or Uninstalling the updates.
And for swf flash files that again was a windows issue.

Did you try manually Uninstalling the updates, sorry for asking again if you have already done this.
Once you have uninstalled the two updates that rules out Windows Updates as that was the original cause.

So if you are still having problems then we have to investigate further.

You have already re-named that 18.0 folder and re-installed Video Studio.
You have updated Flash


You also mentioned your screen being dark, now that’s not a fault of Video Studio.
It does seem that you have a problem with the computer whether that’s software or hardware, but could be the graphics driver.
When you updated to Windows 10 your drivers may have been also updated to run correctly.
After returning to Windows 7 did you update your drivers, I think you should check that the graphics driver installed is current for Windows 7.

Okay I'll start over here.

I woke up Friday morning and started my Video Studio Ultimate x8. I then went to my most resent project that uses "Instant Project" when I did that a window came up saying. Original file [C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8\EditingStyle\InstantProject\T-09\T-09.VSP] doesn't exist. Then it gives me the option to "Delete or Cancel". Then when I click something else it asks me to relink and when I go to that file, an .swf I can see it but I get this instead when I click on it. "File Format Mismatch"

So I looked through here and read that I should uninstall the Microsoft updates. Which I did.
I reinstalled flash too.
It still didn't work so I was told to make folder 18.0 into 18.0 old and I did that. Still no fix.
I was told to download hotfix so I did and still it doesn't work.
Then I was told to uninstall the video studio and then re-install it and I did that too.

That's when my screen seemed, or was, a bit darker so I just turned the computer off. When I rebooted the screen is fine now.

So video studio is working but the only thing that isn't is the "Instant Projects"

As far as Windows 10. Windows 10 and my Video studio are NOT compatible. I could not get my video studio to work at all without it crashing every 5 min. So I took off Windows 10 and I'm using Windows 7.

Thanks for the update, I don’t really know what to suggest next.

As for Windows 10 and X8 many use that and do not have any problems.

I also upgraded to Windows 10 but found problems with the operating system with my older pc not being compatible, mainly my graphics card being old, a bit like me I suppose.
But did not have a problem running Video Studio it was the overall performance of the pc, to many crashes / freezes.

I eventually reverted back to windows 7.

Still we have tried everything, unfortunately I think the problem is with your pc, I don’t know what! but sure its not just a Video Studio or Windows Update problem?

I wont give up, and will keep thinking but just don't know what to suggest next.

Ignoring the fact that Instant Projects do not work correctly, do you have any other problems with Video Studio?
